Last year Jeff Harrington Jr. rolled his revamped 1990 Mustang LX coupe out of the trailer at NMRA-Atco for some action in Pro Outlaw 10.5. It was sitting tough with some major upgrades from Team Z Motorsports and a fresh small-block Ford from Bennett Racing. The 441ci engine features Bennett billet heads and a pair of 88mm turbochargers. As Dave Zimmerman of Team Z says it, they employed a lot of Outlaw Drag Radial and 275 concepts into Harrington’s coupe and the results were instantly realized—6.96 at 214 mph right off the trailer. The NMRA Atco event was rain shortened but Harrington loaded up knowing he had a good foundation to make a run at the 6.70 zone next time out. The team would test at their local track, Milan Dragway, a week later when tragedy struck. The coupe lost control and made contact with the retaining walls. Harrington was okay but the same couldn’t have been said for his coupe. The road to recovery began immediately but Harrington is a regular working guy like the rest of us so just now, nearly a year later, the car is taking shape and readying for a return to action. He sent us these photos of the engine, turbo system, and body all fixed and ready for paint and final detail work. The goal is to be back on track shortly and we are hoping to see the small-block coupe at the NMRA-Milan stop on the tour over the weekend of June 15-16, 2012.
