ALL FINALS POSTED HERE
The pipes have cooled down, the tires stopped smoking, and the engines are silent. The eliminations have concluded and winners are crowned in the NMRA-Keystone Drag Racing Series. Right at the top, John Urist shocked the drag radial world last night with a 7.09 run on 275 drag radials but his luck ran out in the finals. The hot track surface didn’t agree with the intense power levels of the ProCharger F3 121mm supercharger. Phil Hines is the victor but not without incident—he just happen to have less issues that Urist. Hines ran 7.88 while Urist destroyed the tires immediately off the starting line. Score 1 for slicks and 0 for the radials. We think as more racing time is spent on the radials the score will even out. Speaking of radials—Jason Lee ran 7.80 at just 147 mph and was victorious over Ronnie Diaz who had broke shortly after leaving the starting line.
Charlie Booze Jr. and Andy Schmidt squared off in a high-winding slugfest sans power adders. It was a tight final round but Booze edged out Schmidt for the win, 8.53 to an 8.56 with a 153 mph and 154 mph, respectively. Renegade saw Brian Mitchell take the win in another close final round—8.49 to Scott Grove’s 8.57. It was a supercharger vs. nitrous final round in Renegade. Joe Charles proved his Mohawk is worth some luck and grabbed the Coyote Stock trophy. A little help from Tim Matherly of MV Performance and Paul Dishroon in setting up the Ram Clutch didn’t hurt either. He ran 11.00 while Joe Lamb cruised to the runner-up spot with an 11.08. Matt Amrine showed his prowess on the tree by winning Factory Stock on a holeshot over Carlos Sobrino—11.02 to a quicker, but losing, 10.96.
In the Index world of the NMRA conglomerate, Terry “Beefcake” Reeves took the win with his Vortech-supercharged 2011 Mustang GT. He dialed in 9.69 and ran a 9.73 over Wendel who broke out with a 12.39 on a 12.43 reaction time. Donnie Bowles Jr. took the win over Randy Mounce with a 9.96 on a 9.98 index. Mounce broke out further with an 11.27 on an 11.30 index. Johnny Lightning sits on top of Truck and Lightning with his supercharged truck. He won by way of red-light, his competitor Steamer had a -.344 reaction time and handed Lightning the win. The SCT-backed racer ran 9.59 on a 9.27 index. Rodney Ward took the win in Open Comp with an 11.88 on his 11.87 index.
