Update—4:50PM Please keep an eye on the Eliminations post on the NMRA forums. We are heading to finals and all of the semi’s have been run.
Update—3:25PM Don Walsh Jr. and Harry Hruska of Precision Turbo made the decision last night to add a Top Fuel style wing to their Pro Street entry. The Sinned Customs/Don Ness constructed 2010 Mustang GT was built to utilize both the Pro Stock type wing that is essentially an extension of the deck lid or the Top Fuel type of wing. It bolts on easily and adds a considerable amount of downforce. The extra downforce is needed due to the different track conditions between the Route 66 Raceway track this weekend and the typical NHRA track prep. The effect was immediately realized in round 2 with the team eliminating the Roots-blown entry of John Sullivan. Walsh dropped his quickest run of the weekend with an impressive 6.00 at 250 mph.
Update—2:00PM Exclusive Comments: Dwayne James and John Urist gave us a few minutes during their pre-race maintenance schedule to let us know more about the 275 drag radial experiment yesterday during the team’s first round bye-run. We first asked Dwayne about the motive to rebuild the car and for the use of radials. He told us that he wanted to race the car until his new Pro Outlaw 10.5 car was completed and the Cobra was just sitting collecting dust. He and B-Team made some different changes with regards to suspension and a few chassis changes that he didn’t want to divulge. These little tweaks were needed to allow them to run both types of tires (radials and slicks). Urist reluctantly added the 275 radials and weighed in about how the car “drove” on them. He says, “I would say they drive differently. I had to correct a little bit and when running on slicks the car will react differently to a correction than it did on the radials.”
Below: Dwayne James works the phone working with a racer at another race. He is the motivation and influence that led to Urist adding the 275/60-15 radials.
