Bowling Green, Kentucky – Event Preview

Last year at this event, seven of the eight heads-up class elapsed time records were set during Sunday's elimination rounds. The weather was outstanding, and as this event carries double-points status, each racer on the property with a chance to win a championship had to lay everything on the line in order to do so. Mike Murillo, John Urist, Brian Mitchell, Robbie Blankenship, Sean Lyon, Bruce Hemminger, and Louis Sylvester, Jr. all clicked off the quickest passes of the year in their respective fields. Five of those seven took home an NMRA championship at the end of the weekend. Coincidence? We think not. Make your plans now as the hotels fill up quickly for this awesome event - a great way to wrap up the end of the 2012 NMRA championship season!

Beech Bend Raceway Park has an excellent racing surface that's always prepped to within an inch of its life - it's a great place to find out whether you've got the power you think you do. You can have the opportunity to show off your skills in the driver's seat on the track in one of the NMRA's various classes designed to satisfy the entry-level racer. The TREMEC True Street class has always been a racer favorite, with awards given out to the racers closest to each second increment, along with the overall quickest car and the runner-up, after their 30-mile cruise and three dragstrip passes are complete. Last year at this event, 99 cars showed up to take their shot at the True Street 6-foot tall trophy, won by Kentucky's Chris Gish and his awesome '91 convertible Mustang. After the 30-mile tour, Chris was able to put together a stout 8.548 average over his three dragstrip passes to take home the event win over Pistol Pete Ricart and his '81 Mustang.

In addition, entry-level racers fit into the Open Comp, Modular Muscle, and Super Stang classes, so take a look at the class rules and make your plans to come out and race with the best Ford racers in the country. Shelbys and Terminators on the same track?
That's right! The NMRA World Finals also features a shootout between the baddest Shelby GT500's and '03 Cobras on the same track, on the same day, with the same conditions. In 2011 there were a total of 23 cars from all over the country looking to be crowned as "The Man" driving one of these factory-boosted machines. Joe Logan's low-8-second '04 Cobra took home the cheese in 2011 over Tim Oswalt and his '03 Cobra in a battle of supercharged beasts.

King Of The Street
