The second stop on the NMRA tour this season lands in the great state of Georgia at Atlanta Dragway in a combination NMRA/ NMCA race, the 4th Annual Nitto Tire All Star Nationals, held over the weekend of April 12-15, 2012. Last year was the first incarnation of this race in Georgia, and both the NMRA and NMCA superstar racers made it an event to remember. With its close proximity to many of the South's premier racers, Atlanta Dragway pulls in the local competitors along with the NMRA's regulars, making it one of the most exciting stops on the tour. The ProCharger Super Street Outlaw racers stole the show again in Georgia in 2011, with four of them running elapsed times quicker than 7.20, an unheard-of feat on the tiny 28x10.5-inch tire!
The Atlanta Dragway racing surface has been home to many record-setting passes over the years, and the NMRA plans on putting the same type of show on in 2012. With eleven classes on tap featuring everything from the mid-six-second tire-frying machines of Turbosmart Pro Outlaw 10.5 to classes like Trick Flow Specialties Open Comp, there's a little bit of something for everyone. As this event takes place in mid-April, many of the northern racers are still itching to get out of the cold, and the warm climate in Georgia coupled with the vibrant local area full of restaurants and shopping gets everyone revved up for the event in advance. Make sure to have your tickets ahead of time as this event is sure to please!
I want to race - how do I do it?
The NMRA offers many different classes for all different levels of racer. From the entry-level TREMEC True Street class all the way up to the aforementioned Pro Outlaw 10.5 class - if you've got a Ford-powered, Ford-bodied car, there's a class for you to fit in. The True Street class draws the largest participation, with vehicles ranging from the fifteen-second zone all the way down to eight-second heavy hitters - last year's True Street class was won by Louisiana's Darin Watkins, who competed in the combined NMRA/NMCA event with his '81 Chevy truck and clicked off an incredible 8.47 average over his three passes after the 30-mile cruise through the Georgia countryside.
In addition, entry-level racers fit into the NMRA's Open Comp, Modular Muscle, and Super Stang classes, so take a look at the class rules and make your plans to come out and race with the best Ford racers in the country. For rules information visit: www.nmradigital.com/rules, pick a class, make sure your car fits the rules and you have the proper safety gear, and come race with the NMRA!
There's more than just racing action!
In addition to all of the action that will take place on the quarter-mile, the NMRA also has the awesome UPR Products All-Ford Car Show, which features over fifty different awards that are presented each day of the show. Have a '64 1/2 100-point classic Mustang convertible? How about a minty-fresh 2012 GT500? Regardless of what type of spotless Ford machine you own, there's a place for you in the car show and a shot at the grand prize. The Atlanta Dragway stop on the NMRA tour also brings in one of the largest Manufacturer's Midways of the year, where you can see and purchase parts from the hottest aftermarket manufacturers and experts from all of the major manufacturers on hand to answer your questions about how to make your Ford car or truck perform to your expectations. This combined NMRA/NMCA event has a little bit of everything, from the intense racing action to the car show and even a jet car shooting for the Georgia Land Speed record - you'll want to be here in Georgia!
