Bart Toebner Debuts New Turbocharged Mustang Racecar

The name Bart Toebner should resonate with Mustang fans everywhere as we watched him for years dominate the competition in the Renegade ranks. He has taken some time off from the drag strip as he built his latest creation—a turbocharged Mustang LX coupe. He used the engine out of his Renegade racer albeit a few upgrades, most notably the Berry Motorsports intake manifold. Toebner built the car himself with a SFI 25.2 chassis, a complete UPR rear suspension, and UPR front-end components. The crafty Mustang racer also built the turbo system that includes headers, cross-over, exhaust, and all the cold side tubing to and from the air-to-water intercooler.

The engine is a 5.4L Mod Motor with Ford GT Supercar cylinder heads, custom camshafts, and the aforementioned Berry Motorsports billet intake manifold. Pumping up the engine is the job of a Turbonetics 88mm single turbocharger. Putting the power to the ground is an ATF Speed Powerglide and torque converter designed specifically for turbocharged use. Naturally a set of 275/60-15 drag radials sit out back as Toebner takes a stab at the 7.30 range with his new car.
