Arndt and Mitchell Continue Collaboration for 2018 Race Season

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
Soon after securing a third place finish in NMRA Edelbrock Renegade points in 2016, Adam Arndt turned his Mustang over to friend and fellow racer Brian Mitchell and then flew to the Middle East to serve as a firefighter for the United States Air Force. Even though Brian had bought his original Fox body Mustang, Wizard 1, back from the person who had bought the car a few years ago, it was going to be a while before he could get it back together, said Arndt, who, in addition to being a firefighter for the United States Air Force, is a firefighter in Allentown, Pennsylvania. So, we put together a plan to put him in my car for 2017." That plan involved Arndt building a 390ci Ford engine for Mitchell, with an assist from Mike Curcio Race Products, and topping it with Trick Flow High Port heads massaged by Mike Curcio Race Products and an Edelbrock intake converted from a carbureted set-up to an electronic fuel injection set-up by Arndt. After putting the engine under the hood of Arndt's Mustang, they fronted it with Arndt's ProCharger F-1A, paired it with Mitchell's Pro-Formance Transmissions-built Turbo 400 transmission and Dynamic converter, and Arndt brought his tuners, Jason Lee and Patrick Barnhill of PTP Racing, back on board to assist in laying a tune via Big Stuff 3. While Arndt was in the Middle East, Mitchell, a multi-time champion, motored to runner-up finishes at the 17th Annual WyoTech NMRA Ford Motorsport Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania and the 14th Annual NMRA Ford Super Nationals at National Trail Raceway in Ohio, blasted to a best of 7.38 and took a third place finish in points. When Arndt's deployment was over and he returned home to Pennsylvania, he climbed back into his car and clocked a 7.34 in ideal fall weather conditions. While Mitchell and Arndt were to be in their own cars in 2018, a change of plans will see Mitchell stay in Arndt's Mustang, with the same powerplant and power-adder, for NMRA Edelbrock Renegade competition, beginning with the 24th Annual Nitto NMRA Spring Break Shootout, March 1-4 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, and Arndt will take over for competition at a number of other events. Additionally, Arndt will help Krista Elyse campaign her 2010 Mustang featuring a Coyote engine, Pro-Formance Transmissions-built C4 and Dynamic converter, in NMRA Richmond Gear Factory Stock. Brian's car is being finished, but meanwhile, this all works out very well, because Brian and I will be able to pool our resources and combine our programs, and I'll be able to devote time to Krista and her car, said Arndt. It will be a good year.
