Currently have 15" x 8" Welds on rear of car with 5 1/2" backspacing.

I have BFGoodrich radial T/A tires size 255/60/15 that measure 27.1 O.D. by 8.2 tread width. No problems fitting even with my BBK 1" /1 1/2" lowering springs.

Here's my question:

want to fit BFGoodrich Drag Radial tires size 275/50/15 which measure 26.1 O.D. by 10.0 tread with.

Will these fit in my wheelwell being 10" wide? Will I have to use the hammer?

I don't know about that spacing that you have..but with the proper back spacing you could fit the 275x60x15 doing nothing more than rolloing the lips for the fenders....you may ok w/ the 50 series and your spacing...not 100% though

what's the easiest and cleanest way to "roll" the rear wheel well lips so they don't look terrible.??????

a baseball bat and a buddy. Put the tall tires on it and then start w/ bat at one end of the wheel well and then slowly roll the car while pressing down on the bat forcing the lip upward...

Some people like to use a cutting tool and make cuts every 2-3 inches making the lip easier to roll. Using this method also makes it so the lip can be rolled tighter to the fender while requiring less effort.

Good luck...

i run the 275/50/15s on my 88gt, i did the cut method every so many inches. looks like sh$t! but it sorta matches the car.
if theres not a problem just cutting the lips out , id do that.

i also run the 9" wide welds. without rolling the lips, i was gashing the tires pretty good. i had to go around corners slow or it would rub real bad. having no sway bar didnt help.

The tires/wheels will fit the car. But I'd recommend changing springs and give your wheel well some love with a BFH.

What year is your car?

when i first built my car i had 275/50's on a pro-star 15 x 8 with 5 1/2 offset and they fit with no problem.

My car is an 81.

Well, If I change the rear springs, it would be a good idea to change the front as well, right?

I don't think having lowering springs on the front and regulars on the rear will fly?

Just a shot in the dark... but if you're going drag racing, how about GT springs in the back and coilovers in the front?

Well, just a shot in the light. $$$. I've always heard that it is better to have a stiffer rear spring than a sloppy, spongy one!

Is that true?

Correct, coilovers would be better in the front.

...common R/S setup. But don't take my word for it. I'm nobody.
