This is to the NMRA safety tech.....the new NHRA rules say you need a 25.XX cert chassis to run under 8.5, but When I inquired to a well known chassis shop, they said it is a pain to do, and they probably wont do one again with stock floor/suspension. Now...I am not trying to be a smart a$$ or anything, but is this how D/R and REN is going to be limited on ET, or are there going to be changes on rear suspension?
Thanks

I'm not sure of the underlying question here, but as of this writing, there have been no discussions of changing the rear suspension requirements in DR

Sorry about the confusion, what I am getting at is when you swithc to a 25. chassis, the builders (now 2 have confermed) that they dont want to do a 25 chassis with a stock floor/stock rear suspension. Will the NMRA change the rules if you need to go into a 25. chassis for rear suspension, or will this basically be the ET limiter on the classes... i.e. renegade, and drag radial if you must have stock rear suspension.

Doing a 25.5 without cutting the stock floor pan is easy. There is minimal cutting needed. In addition, 25.5 is only a spec for the front cage structure and basically makes no specifications regarding anything behind the front of the rear subframe. Keeping stock suspension with even a 25.2 is not a problem and I have seen many examples of this lately. All you have to do is leave out the four link or ladder bar brackets while keeping the crossmember and vertical bars to the horizontal brace in the main hoop as those are both required to be legal to the spec. If your builders don't want to do it, then find another. According to Eric Lowe at NHRA tech, the 25.5 rule will not go into place until January 2005 UNLESS the car runs over 180mph. Then it would be forced to go to 25.5 or 25.2. I can't see the NMRA using this to limit the et's to 8.50 since there are plenty of chassis builders who will do this. Skinny Kids has plenty of pictures on his site of 25.2 cars with stock floor pans.

I agree with Shane. According to the drawings in the SFI Spec for 25.5, with a stock floor, the only problem that I saw is possibly getting the transmission out because of the extra tubeing under the floor area, I'm going to let the Renegade and Radial guys have removable trans tunnels (steel OEM) just to make trans removal easier.

hey guys, just so you know i was also wondering about this and i called nhra div. 1 today and they told me you will only need to get a 25.5 cert. if your car runs either faster than 7.50 or more than 180 mph and that is effective in jan of 2005 so even after jan of 2005 if your car doesn't meet that criteria you don't have to change a single thing .:) unless nmra decides to make their own unique set of rules they generally follow nhra for safety. please anybody correct me if i was misinformed, thanks.

SOMEONE needs to clear this up, there are allot of opinions!
first, the 25.5 is only for cars runing faster than 8.50 but not faster than 7.50 or 180mph, the 25.2 cert is for cars running faster than 7.50's
second, if you read the 25.5 spec and look at the diagrams it can be confusing, you need to read the side notes, on uni body cars with OEM floors and A pillar's with energy absorbing material, you dont need all the floor bracing, and there are several things that can be done with current car configurations!
Third, 25.2 and the old 25.1c and d are the cars that are a pain to build with stock floors, that is what most chassis builders are complaining about!
Basicaly there is way too much to answer on a post so if anyone has any questions feel free to call or e-mail
