Question: I have a FFR cobra that runs a naturallly asperated 306 that runs 10.70's My short times 1.45-1.50 using a 32lb steel wheel. I just purchaced a Spec 3 carbon clutch setup [good idea?] and they really suggested I go to an alum. wheel. They say a lot of the NMRA guys are using them. My car is 2400lbs with me in it. I launch at 6500. Is it a good idea? Will my short times suffer? Pros vs cons. Any help is really appreciated. Brian

It's not going to hurt in any way shape or form. When you launch there is sop much slippage anyhow, that the "flywheel effect", as far as maintaing rpm isn't really a part of the equation. As rpm climbs and slippage reduces, the light flywheel has a whole lot less inertia to overcome compared to the steel. I wouldn't run anything else in a stick car.

I installed a aluminum flywheel and my 60 foot went from a best of a 1.52 to a 1.49 .The launch seemed less violent .I wouldnt put anything else in my car.
