Im getting ready to head to my first Test and Tune at http://www.virginiamotorsportspk.com/ tomorrow. I know i wont run less then a 13.99 so i was figuring i dont need a helmet. Now some people say they think because I have a convertible a helmet is required no matter what time I run. Is this true?

Bone Racing,

According to the 2004 NHRA rulebook, section 1A, page 27, under driver:10 in the helmet section, it states nothing of convertibles being special requiring helmets regardless of e.t., therefore they are not required until 13.99.

87 vert,

If your convertable runs 13:99 or quicker, you must have a three inch driver restraint system installed (racing harness) in your car. If you run quicker than 13:99 in your convertable you also need a roll bar installed in the car.

As for the helmet 13:99 and quicker.

In all matters addressed above, please refer to the NHRA rule book.

Best bet, run 14:00 and slower.

The rule of helmet being required in a convertible is true at some tracks, maybe not a NMRA rule but some tracks do have that rule. I have a 92 GT Convertible and live just outside of Memphis. When my car was stock and running 15s I still had to wear a helmet at Memphis Motorsports park. If you have a helmet might as well take it along just incase. Im sure the will let you know for sure while going thru tech...

I think its a good idea for any 1 to use. no matter what speed,if you have acess to a helmet use it. Whats it going to hurt!(Not your head :p
