Roll cage help

I am trying to get my plates mounted to my floorpan for my 10pt.
I have a question that I cannot get a straight answer on. The plates that the main hoop mounts to....do they need to conform to the floorpan, or can I weld a piece of steel in there to fill the gap?

Main hoop just needs bottom plate, I could be wrong, but I don't think Ya need the 2 side ones.welding needs some work,looks like the welder is not operating correctly,or maybe need some more practice.
