Does anyone have any suggestions on the best built C4's? I recently cracked the case (just above the pan) on my Dynamic C-4 (Mighty Mite) - Fords @ Etown (track sucked anyway - zero bite)a few weeks ago and I don't have the extra cash this off season to go to a glide. I've heard, many times that Dynamic builds a good tranny but they do break often. Any thoughts? suggestions? I'm going out to Select tomorrow.

By the way, I'm running a small block 408, back halved, 12" tire, 9" rear w/ 4.30 gears, transbrake & 2-step (launch @ 4,200), coupe (2,600lbs w/ driver). Typical 60's in the 1.38 range. Thanks.

Art Carr makes some really good C4's.
My buddy has a 408 with a 200 shot and it's been running consistant 9.30's for the last year.

Thanks, status50. I'll look into it. Select has my tranny now and they're gonna pull it apart before making a suggestion.

What motor and transmissions mounts are you using?? Solids on the motor are ok but if I remember correctly a solid trans mount can cause the trans case to brake.

On the Renegade car I use solids on the motor and a stock rubber mount on the trans.

you can run a solid mount on the trans because the crossmember is mounted in rubber.

I use a motor and mid plate. Aluminum up front and steel mid, bellhousing bolts directly through mid-plate, obviously.

I've heard great things about performance automatic. You should give them a call or check out there website www.performanceautomatic.com

Hey 5.8, yeah that PA C-4 looks pretty strong but I'm still waiting to see what Select Performance here in NY has to say about my wounded mighty-mite. Let me know how that new tranny works out, I might be giving them a call soon.

I'm thinking this reply is way late, but I had an Art Carr C4 this year. It lasted 7 passes and a launch! The first real pass I tried to put on it, completely wiped it out. I know many people who've had good luck from both Dynamic and PA.

Do you have a engine limiter? Also try Jims Performance Trans there in MI. They offer a complete roller trans or the parts to do it with. I know PA (4 bearings) has rollers but there not the same as Jims (12 bearings).Give them a look .

Art Carr C4's are great.....but you have to get them from Art Carr himself. He sold the company a while back and the new owners are not producing anywhere near the same quality pieces. It's funny to say, but in order to get an Art Carr C4 you can't buy it from the company named Art Carr. I'm curious why you just don't go with a glide......your car is light enough and making enough power to utilize one.

Hi Guys..... I thought this post was dead a long time ago :) but thanks for the additional replies. Select Performance actually rebuilt the tranny which according to them was set-up completely wrong by Dynamic. To be fair, the unit was old and came with the car (rolling) but the combo used was very close to mine.

Also what do you typically get with a Mighty-Mite upgrade from Dynamic cuz there was no hardened shaft, deep pan, etc... but again this tranny was done over 7 years ago, so no hard feelings, I know Dynamic builds some killer, proven tranny's.

Dave, I agree but didn't go with the Glide cuz it wasn't part of this off season's plans $$$$ (neither was the C4 blowing up the last time out for the year :) ) I'll probably go with the Glide next year.

Thanks for all the feedback.

As a rule, I don't like to get involved on the web. I think this should remain a 'racers' forum', not an opportunity for free advertising. However, I gotta say, misinformation does bother me.
It sounds to me like you've gotten a load of it. I am more than a little proud of the reputation our transmissions have earned, and in terms of getting the correct setup for a vehicle and the strength and durability they display, you simply can't buy anything better. So what? Well, if you think you've got a unit that was built by DYNAMIC Racing Transmissions, the best source of information for you is DYNAMIC Racing Transmissions. And honestly, from your brief description of the unit, it certainly could not have left here under the Mighty Mite name.
Thats all. I wish you all the luck. ENJOY

I run a Transking, full roller C4, full manual VB, brake..... It's the best trans out there as far as a C4 goes. Alot of the Big name uses swear by them.

Thanks everybody for all the info. and please don't misunderstand, I had very little info on the tranny except that the unit was years old, from Dynamic and was supposed to be a Might Mite.
To my knowledge Dynamic builds kick-ass tranny's but even Select (who just rebuilt the unit) doesn't know exactly why the valve body overpressurized and blew out the case. I hope to get through this season with it and go to a glide.....I guess we'll see;)

What can i say about Dynamic except that i got the best service i got 2 years ago when i was trying to nickel and dime things and bought 7 year old dynamic trans which i knew nothing about flexplate and pro-torque converter what junk everything was nothing would fit anf when my race shop hooked me up with Harold he gave me one of the best service satisfactions i had he built me the mighty mite with flexplate and tct torque converter where everything fit like a glove and do to my big engine mistake the motor got washed up before it even started it took me a year and a half to build my keith kraft 408 mill with tfsr heads by tea which will get sprayed with a fooger when i ll spray it i dont know but since i got all the top of the line parts the tranny will handle just fine but in either case even though harold didnt have to do it for me he exchanged the flexplate for a 351 at no charge and even something like this made me feel that they care you get the Dynamic service i havent driven this setup yet do to the fact i am on my strict budget and putting this right the first time now just waiting on headers from kooks thats the last piece i am missing to my puzzle and i ll finally get to enjoy it !
all i know when i drove my friends car with a dynamic c4 in it that thing just rocked dont get me wrong i am a little concerned about the horsepower my engine will make but i know Dynamic is behind their product and the tranny is the last thing on my mind right now!
Thanx to Harold and everyone else that helped me to get to my dreams!

My C4 wasn't a Dynamic, but my 408 CRUSHED IT in less than 8 passes. It was rollerized and warranteed and I got my money back. I don't want you to worry, but I'd at least be concerned.
