View Full Version : How many UFC fight fans in the crowd?

Just curious guys.

I have followed it since 1993. Spike TV has stepped up to bring it to most households in the last year. (free)

Of course Pay Per View handles the big fights.

This Saturday Randy Couture vs. Chuck Lidell for the Light Heavyweight title, currently held by Lidell.

REAL men. Serious stuff.

Again, just curious.

Damn Larry, I wish you lived closer, we could split the cost of the PPV event this weekend, I love it. Not many people know that I used to fight with the UFC, it interfered with my racing so I had to give it up.

Hey, I remember you. Didn't you fight Royce Gracie back in 94 or 95? You were out of the Vampires, Witches, and Warlocks training center right??:D :D

Didn't you move over to WWF wrestling after you left UFC.

Later.

I like the old UFC format, who will ever forget when D.L "Tank" Abbott knocked that 400 pound dude cold in Wyoming think his name was John Mutua? Most amazing knockout I have ever seen.

Glad to see the interest guys.

The new rules are working out OK. Remember, we had to appease the politicians and government folks. (don't get me started on John Mccain sticking his nose in it)

Weight classes were a good thing.

The level of talent, skill and brutality are at an all time high.

Let's get it on!

I guess I am a little surprised at your post Larry. I never figured you would like the UFC. I guess its your calm demenor. But you know what the say its the quit ones, there the ones you have to watch out for.

Anyway, I love the UFC, it is awesome. Some friends of mine in the area get together and watch all of the pay per views and buy the DVD and pass them around to each other. And talk about the best fights, the best TKO's.

Like Carl said, TANK ABBOTT is the man. I like the independants that used to enter and just knock the **** out of people. Now its more skill oriented and the Grace's are to thank for that. Now a days you need to be trained in different background of martial arts / fighting to be a champion. It took the sport to a whole new level.

As for the rules, I knew when the UFC started it wouldn't be long for the "easily affended ones" to get there mitts on it and change it...

One way or another People respond to violence... I for one love it.

Larry,
You surprised me too with your interest. Theresa and I watch it quite a bit and we are going to get the PPV this weekend. She likes Lidell. But he is a bad a$$.
If anyone has some DVD's they'd like copied, let me know. I'd like some too. :D
Did everyone see where Royce Gracie is coming back? Might even be on the PPV. Can't remember exactly.

And Theresa's favorite saying for me is (In your best UFC announcer voice)
Todd The Dumb A$$ Savidge (Drag out the last name) LOL I can only laugh when she says it. :)

I love the ufc...but 1 of the new rules kind of sucks...i mean if you hit someone and they go down....even if they are somewhat coherent there is no 8 count or anything..they are just knocked out. I can recall in many boxing matches (huge boxing fan here) where a guy has gone down 2 times in a round and still win the fight...hell arturo gatti has made a career of it..but i know it is comparing apples to oranges. BTW It should be couture by desicion...even thought he got ktfo last time.

Todd,

Royce Gracie vs Matt Hughes will be the biggest PPV for a long time. Hughes is 32. Gracie 39. They will fight in May.

Monday night on Spike TV is the ticket. UFC Unleashed is the show. Sometimes they throw in an extra hour earlier than the show.

The reality show from the UFC has produced some great fighters. I am not a reality show fan for the other stuff, but this has been good.

Matt Hughes is THE man. Nice guy and a tremendous fighter.

Royce is credited for starting it all. He beat everybody in the early years. Remember there were no weights classes. He fought at around 186 pounds.

I am glad to see the interest out here.

Go to www.fcfighter.com The news section is good.

Yeah, and back then you had to go thru 3-4 guys in a single night to win. I'd like to see some of the "new breed" MMA guys try that and see how well they fare.

My brain says to bet on Matt, but my heart says go with Royce. Should be a great fight.

I'm thinking Lidell wins again this weekend, Chuck's sprawl is the best out there so I doubt Randy will get him to the ground and when it stays upright Randy's going to be in trouble. Should be a great one as well.

Larry Geddes

Greg,

I feel the same way on Matt vs Royce.

I would like to see Randy win.............who knows?

They showed the 1st fight last Monday. Couture was great in the standup. You're are correct about Chuck being so hard to take down. A couple of times Randy slammed Chuck down HARD flat to his back. Of course Chuck was not down very long. Great fight.

Just a thought.....Royce is pronounced Hoyce as is all of the Gracies. Royler,Renso etc.

So is Randy pronounced Handy?

Vicious as it may seem, it does have it's sporting lines and it is indeed controlled. As long as they don't go to the Professional Wrestling hype crap and promote it with class since it is a sport.
I guess for Mr. Geddes, UFC is his release. Hate to see him get mad! LOL
Don't forget Dan "the Beast" Severn.
Seems the few that did cross the line into that "Sports Entertainment" thing, went back to their roots.
Jeff Swanson, multi-martial arts man??? Bet it made shifting hard after a night of matte work....
Why not James Lawrence vs. Jake the Snake Amostino (sorry for the spelling!) since we know James will never get his project car out to race the Smav....

Hey Larry I watch UFC every week. But I have to agree with some of the posts, that I would never think that you would be interest in the UFC,;) Zoop

In the past, Larry has mentioned UFC matches here and there, which led me to believe he's a fan. Like a lot of you, his interest definitely surprised the heck out of me, mostly because we all usually see the calm (well, firey when he's racin' and he feels he's been wronged in some way), friendly, Mr Open Comp, ambassador of the sport.

I'm not really familiar with UFC, WWF, or any of the other fighting or beat-his-brains-out competitions, but I bet it would be pretty amusing to be a fly on the wall in the Geddes house on fight night. The thought makes me laugh and think back to the movie "Stripes," when "Don't call me Francis"/"Psycho" got all amped-up at the mud-wrestling chicks, and was jumping up and down on his chair, spitting popcorn everywhere and yelling like a mad man!

I would pay a king's ransom to have a piece of video like that, showing Larry at an all-time high with frenzied fight excitement! Maybe we can get Erma to hide a camera in a plant or something! LOL

Personally, I dig the "sweet science" of boxing. Today's fights are OK, with the lighter weights being more exciting, but I'm a true fan of yesterday's heavyweight division. Foreman, Frazier, and "The Greatest"...those cats used to throw BOMBS.

KJ, my friend..............

Notch beat me to the comment about WWE and the UFC in the same sentence.

We MUST get you tuned into Spike TV. I could type a bunch of info here, but I think I will call. I always enjoy talking with you.

Boxing is Blah and humdrum compared to our UFC, Mixed Martial Arts style of fighting. (my opinion) NO COMPARISON. I truly think this says something about our society.

We had a great time at Hooters on Saturday night last year in Grand Rapids Michigan during our NMRA event. Hooters had the UFC PPV on several screens. My son-in-law, Hank Dingfelder, his wife Joy and other family members, Hank's mom and Stacy Estel all sat at a table and enjoyed the fights.

This particular fight card featured one of the bloodiest fights I had ever watched. Ask Hank. Anyway, I sat there eating sloppy hot wings and fries and ketchup. The gore didn't phase me. I asked myself, "what have I become?"

BTW, we have another UFC fan in Jeff Swanson. Ask him.

If you you realy see the future of MMA, go to www.youtube.com and type in "Rampage, Crocop, Silva, or Fedor". Three of the four have just moved to UFC. Rampage kicked the living crap out of Lidell last year at a Pride PPV. Crocpo beat rampage silly, and Fedor is undefeated. It's exciting stuff and PPV's are definitely cheaper than racing/breaking stuff...Happy viewing!

This morning on Spike TV Randy Couture announced his comeback.

He will move up a weight class and fight the lazy, complacent, unexciting neandrethal looking World Heavyweight Champion Tim Silvia on March 3rd in Columbus, Ohio.

Randy held this title a few years back before he went down to light heavyweight.

Randy has signed a 4 fight contract to cover the next 2 years.

I'll say this much, PRIDE's fighters have better conditioning. They train for three 10-minute rounds versus the UFC's three 5-minute rounds. As far as rules go, the UFC does not allow someone to be kicked while they are "down"; in PRIDE, you'd better not sit still too long on the mat or you'll get the bees wax kicked out of you. It'll definitely be interesting.

Good call. Although, I did watch a little program a few years ago on the Discovery Channel called American Casino. It was based on one of their casinos and Dana White/UFC stuff. I didnt know how deep Dana and Tito went, but I think they could have shortened the program since there was no actual fight.
