Anyone else interested in getting in a pool for DR points champ?
Right now I only have 4 guys in.
If more people are interested let me know and we can figure out the details.
Right now we are looking at $150 per racer.

timneagroup

It will still be damn near impossible with an 88. The tire and HP is the limitation. This seems to be more possible than the 85mm. We seen the blower cars...8.20...it would take a lot to get the 7.99.
I'm going to have to say 2006 will not see a 7 second run.
Dave, your right I'm bored...i hate this cold weather.

Come on now Tim, dont be such a pesimist.:D
Chip went 8.20 at 100lbs over weight. He also only had 1.389 60' time. Put him at legal weight & give him a 1.30 60' time and he runs 8.0's easy. If he finds 2-3 more mph worth of hp then he is right there. Is it possible......sure. Will it happen.....probably not........with a blower anyway.:D
timneagroup
02-07-2006, 12:48 PM
I think its might be possible if you ran slicks and an 88mm. on a radial it will be a 1 in a million chance.
If everyone was running 1.50 60fts and you were able to invent some new suspension that would allow you to go 1.30's it might be possible, but this class is already mature....and running in the 1.30's. Outlaw cars only run in the 1.20's. I think Manny told me that he went 1.25 with his new suspension and they were happy with that. The heavy weight of the blower and turbo combo's won't allow for stellar 60's.
I just don't see what you plan to do that everyone else hasn't already tried or is trying?

I don't see a 7 second pass happening this year but I do think there will be a lot more 20's. Me hopefully being one of them. I still have to build my motor this weekend and reassemble everything from the mock up. I should have it 100% race ready in two weeks. I would have been finished by now but I had to work on Chip's bucket for ever :D . I will definitely be in Florida.......with my Vortech:eek: I sure am sick of melting lead!!!

This is True...Chris Crown out of florida was running 8.60's ( i think it may have even gone into the 8.50's with a 2v motor and 76mm turbo. I believe Fox Lake did the engine work on it..job tuned it.. it was a bad ass ride...

chris crown, just do a search, fox lake built a stroker 4.6 2v, the car still had an alternator, weighed a ton and was tuned by Job. i don't expect my car to do great off the go because i will be driving but i know it will make much more power than that one did.
it was in several magazines but you will find it easy in a search on the net and it was nmra legal
that really was not my point, i just think with the numbers you all ran last year i know with how smart you all are you will pick up a ton. it was intended as a compliment to you all.
i think like this, if Clemmons ran some 8.20's last year and built a new car, i really think with him and the Z team they will get a 7 second car out of it with a lot of hard work but it will be done, why else would he by a new car and go through all that work, i think its to pick up more than a tenth

did not see you guys already put up links, thanks
but anyway, my car/motor/88mm vs 76 mm/and Job tunning i am just really excited about this year. my car is not together yet and i know that makes a difference but my motor last year the heads flowed a ton more than that car and now its a insane difference, i am not claiming to win a race or anything. but i feel i will be competitive IF IF i can do my part and learn how to drive it well.
i really cannot wait to see how my car runs and what it runs, i have maxed out just about all of my assets to get the best of everything to run the number
well, see you all at the track, hopefully this year i will not see as many parachutes opening in front of me:D

heres a couple pieces of info:
1.) Chris Crown was using a FFW legal turbo...76/88...not legal in NMRA. That was Dave's question
2.) Phil Clemmons car is not NMRA legal, and he is not planning to run NMRA.
3.) No one will run a 7 in NMRA trim at an NMRA event in 2006.
Once again...like I said in 2005. If someone thinks they can lay down a 7 sec pass...I will be the first to line up against them.

dude, i was not aware of #2 on your list and i don't expect me to be anywhere near 7's, i just thought someone else would for sure. i'm no dummy, well at least not completely, i have no thoughts that just because my motor and numbers stack up better on paper that my car will run faster, i really think someone will run that 7 though, too many cars with too good of guys involved not too, just wish i was one that had a chance to run a 7 but i choose to keep the little 4.6 2v and am hoping for consistantcy this year. along with not killing too many parts or the car
sure will be a fun year

I was just telling Dave today that just when you think you have seen it all.......The pinacle of stupidity.......This post comes along.
Not that this means a hole hell of a lot to anyone here, but my kids swim at U of M every night. The olympian Michael Phelps has a very big presence at the pool. He wears a shirt quite often that says:
"The guy who says it cannot be done is getting passed by a guy who is doing it. Now, what did you say"?
Instead of worrying what another racer might or might not do, or how fast another guy might run, or how fast some message board thinks the class will go, why don't you concentrate on your own rig. Go as quick as you can, safely. If its fast enough to win, then you have done a good job. If you don't win, then you have to work harder. If you do the same things as everyone else does, then guess what? You'll run the same. Think outside the box. Think "How can I" vs "It cannot be done".
Nothing is impossible, just some things are more improbable.

That was a great post and its something we have been talking about at the shop. This class has only been around for 4 years or so it is just getting started. Look at What greg Anderson did in Pro Stock, that class has been around for 30 years and he has been able to pick up a ton in the last few years. It wasn't log ago that a 6.8XX was good, now you have to run a 6.6XX at over 208 on the good tracks and that is only in the last few years so if they can find that much power and speed in a 6 sec car we can find 2 teens in an 8 sec car.
Oh, and about the tire being the limit, theres always a limit in drag racing, but people go faster every year in every class hell look at the 10.5 Outlaw stuff. Who thought you had enough tire to go 6.80's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think we have plenty of tire its just making it work better with what we have. I think we have the ability to make much more power too, we have been working at the shop on a set of High ports that move 40 more CFM then Trace's heads and Trace almost went 173 on those heads. I know that when we worked Trace's heads last year and picked them up about 8-10 CFM it made such a big improvement that he had problems managing the power so can you imagine 40 CFM???
Anyway this should be fun, good luck to everyone getting there cars done for Florida.

I think someone running an 88 may accomplish it. It will have to be at Bradenton, Reynolds, or Bowling Green, because the track won't be there for the rest of the events due to the heat.
But I think it'll happen. Quite possibly by someone you might not expect to do it.

If someone can go 173 or 174, it's entirely possible. You guys have proven that you can hang with the MPH required, now you've gotta refine what's already there. I think the guy that figures it out will have no problem going 7.90's....

I think that is exactly what it would take to ge there......1.30 60' and 175+ mph.
The only problem is getting a 3450lb car to 60' a 1.30:confused:
Hell, at memphis Wade was only running 7.90's. I think he weighed 3400lbs.
His incrementals were like 1.32 60', 5.23 @ 142 1/8 mile & high 7.90's @ 180.
We dynoed this car a few days before the race, it made nearly 1400 to the tires. He was also running 315 mickeys.

I really don't care what the record was, is or will be! I just want to race!
We have some new suspension products we want to test and the best feed back I can get is having my own A$$ in the drivers seat!!! It's been Great working with all the guys who run my parts and will continue to do so, but I truly want to push the envelope as far as I can! I would be a Fool to say it can't be done especially if I don't really know! And anyone who Say's there isn't a ton of room for improvement in the first 1/8 mile is dead wrong! And Tim if I limit myself to what someone else has done in the past, I'll NEVER do anything better, if I say a 1.34 60' is good enough and don't try anything else I'll never go faster and I'll never be able to make my customers faster, end of story!

we went 1.28 60ft with Josh Williams car at a test n tune after the season ended.. this was at 3150 (ysi/cooler), C4 trans, and wheelie bars... this was on a 325/50/15 BFG!

Your right Tim it can't be done! I have seen several low 1.30 passes on BFG's on the rear tires though!
And with Tim's car that was a Micky, we set up his suspension at my shop and never touched it again! meaning if we worked on it it could get much better! But Tim was chasing converter gremlins and other issues all year!
I also Know what Shobers car 60' with wore out slicks and NO tuning! Again think if we only knew what we were doing and could tune a chassis, or we had access to equipment, and tools, and could fabricate, had the financial resources(not a VISA card) what could be done!

In theory anything is possible! Until someone does it or even gets close to it, ....Than talk about it! No one has even been in the teens yet! let alone in the 0's!
Anyone with any brains will start with what works first than refine from there. If you go out and try to reinvent the wheel than all you have is a bunch of excuses. I have seen it happen in outlaw.
Let's just try to make our cars faster and go from there. If it happens than great, if not keep trying. I guess nothing is impossible but this is just improbable.
I think people should try to go in the teens first and take it little by little. If not I will just do what Chris Tuten did and let everyone beat themselves (that man is a smart racer) There have been cars in the 30's and 20' for the last two years and I don't think he even hit the 50's until after mid season. Just goes to show that fastest cars don't always win either.

Bob,
this is the exception. A light-weight car can 60-foot. I figured a nitrous guy would chim in. My question is do you think that the ysi combo can go 175mph.
Imagine a 3300+ Blower car or a 3450+ turbo car running a high 1.2X 60-foot. It can't happen on a BFG with stock suspension.
Dave,
I need to know what were talking about. The statement about Shobers car on worn out slick, what are the details?
1.) That is on slick..worn out or new...slick are different than BFG's.
2.) What was the motor combo....was it a 170+mph blower combo, or an NA combo?
3.) What was the car weight?
4.) What did the flux capacitor do when you hit 88mph?
SSO2191
02-09-2006, 11:22 AM
We have always been able to get Evans car to 60' in the low 1.3's regularly. And you would not believe what he has for suspension if you looked for yourself. It is the same old street stuff that has been on there for almost 10 years. Now that his car has to weight 3300+ and it makes more power it is alot harder just to get in the 1.3's at all.

honestly tim, if i didnt think i could go 1.2x on a BFG at 3300lbs, i wouldnt even be trying to run drag radial. I know alot of other cars are going to outpower me, but I think i can get the car to work in the first 330 ft... Again, this is how I feel... Time will only tell.

Let's put it like this-what is the best 60ft.(on BFG)-with a blower or turbo?

Rear-shocks/springs(if you have coil-over)/pinion angle/anti-roll bar(usually "set it & forget it"-if you do it right the first time:eek: /the lengths of the control arms must be within a certain length(according to rules...correct?)
Front-strut/spring rate(if you have coil-overs;) )/front-end travel
I don't know much else+usually when Iam in the staging lanes I see people"walking the track"-when they come back to their car-"typically" I see them crack-open the lap-top....NOT crawl under their cars.It does take a"base-line"to get it close-I'll agree with that-but after that-it's mostly in the(starting line)tune.

No Chris your not missing anything!! your 100% right! most people set it and forget it, and deal with track conditions with the lap top! and to be quite honest with you most people dont even want to mess with their suspension, and I'd guess it's because they think mid 1.30's is as good as it get's. All I am saying is look at other classes that dont have FAST or BIG STUFF they change gear, clutch, converter, pre load ,shock settings, weight bias, ect. looking for 1/100.
The lap top is great, but what if someone used that, and didnt just set and forget their suspension, the potential to go faster just sitting there not being taped because the lap top works so well!
I'm not being a smart a$$ by saying this but Chris you just brought up the the total obvious, not many people even touch their suspension other than a twist to the anti roll bar, or a click on the shock!
But as cope would say I'm just talking $hit because nobody does it so it dont work!

here's some #'s from yesterday, 1.24, 3.39, 5.@# @ 13*, 6.711, 8.014, no mph clocks. ooops, that was on old slicks. still to cold to test radials. but the good thing is its quicker than i have ever been with the 85mm. that was also at radial weight. i know it doesnt matter cause it wasnt on bfg's but i'm still happy:D
Now cope, come on! I am not stupid enough to say I'm going to run 7's, if I doesent happen I'll look really stupid, all I have ever said is I think it is possible! Tony said "under the right conditions he thought it was possible" but you wouldn't get smart with him, don't want to piss off a sponsor now do you cope!
As for what Jay says he's his own man I don't pull his strings, he doesn't pull mine! Tim does a good job of dishing it out also and it's obvious he can hold his own, he's doing quite well and I hope he doesn't have a problem with me expressing what I THINK!
Now I really wish you would stop by the shop because, I KNOW the only thing you have for me is a PIZZA and I have $10.95 for you! Lunch is at 12:30
Remember Cope you said it best "Carma ain't it a *****!"
one more thing leave Hop out of it I'm sure he can speak for himself, just like Jay and Tim, so if he has a problem with ME not JAY I am sure he'll let ME know!
You didn't say you were going to run a 7,but you are, were part of that program. So yes in a round about way you said you were going to run a "7".
Jay is his own man and you do not need to speak for him. All i said was he was out of line. He hasn't even replied you have been doing all the talking for him.
What does Karma have to do with this thread?
Leave Hop out of this didn't you say,
Does it matter? last time you were here you were saying how you guy's had something for everyone;)
Who are you referring to here??? Just me, i think not.
As for the pizza thing yes you can have some because i'm sure you have time for it. You will have the car loaded up before second round.

i actually ran someone last night. the outcome wasnt to my liking. blowing water out of the exhaust doesnt make for a very straight pass. i'll be back next weekend to get my $$$ back, i guess he can consider that a loan! also, on that 8.01 pass, because the car was going left (front tires we off the ground) i was at 54% throttle for 1.4 sec. a full straight pass will be very interesting. i also forgot to mention that i am down on power, i'll keep how much to myself, hehe. should be a fun and interesting year cause i know with the extra power getting it to the ground is now going to be ALOT harder.

I honestly think that the first one that goes into the 7's needs to be sent to France, put up in a 5 star hotel, given a couple grand to spend, and all the French women that he can stand for a week!

To stir up the pot a little bit....I remember having a discussion with Mr. Little, Mr. Head, and Mr. Gutridge at PRI.
I wonder if BD is just faking everyone out and plans to come back in '06?

last i heard of Dwayne's car it ran 7.40's on bfg's and i have no clue what type of trim that was but the guys at kooks told me that because they had to build new headers to clear his mechanical fuel pump
most cars do not need that type of fuel pump until almost 2000 hp, that is what i have been told

"WE got something for everyone" Now i remember what your talking about.
WE(dave and I) had just got some new HOPPERTECH shirts(NAVY BLUE) made and WE were going to give them away to everyone.. But that was awhile ago and WE don't have anymore left to give away.
As for the Childish "TEA BAGGING" its all in good fun, plus its good luck. Just ask anyone with a car that has been tea bagged , they will tell you they won that round.. SO when you get your car out let me know i'll "TEA BAG" it also because you will need all the luck you can get...;)
DAVE, by the way tried to reply to your PM but your box is full. Empty it out and i'll send it to you..

If anyone wants to buy a shirt e-mail me and WE will get some more made and bring them to FLA

By the way no-one from the Vortech camp cries when Procharger comes up with a "new f1r" for some teams to try! I wonder if thats approved?

No excuses here, hell the car was crashed at 8 pm and by 4:30 Am the next morning I was driving it down Hall road in Mich. went a mid 9 pass on motor that very next day, but I had alot of good help to fix it that fast, the Zimmermans and all the guys at Team Z stayed up all night to fix it. And as of today the car is at sullivans in Mich getting all redone and ready for the new race year.

You guys (you and Jay) Take pot shots at Tim for no reason.
Cope, if you are naive enough to think the following was *no reason*, then so be it. You are entitled to your opinion.
Hey Jay, not to bust your chops or anything, but is this the year and the car that will go 7's in NMRA trim?
Even Chip right after tim's post posted, "trouble maker".
He asks a question and jay calls him stupid.
Cope, if you are going to insinuate that tim meant NOTHING by his above post, then please read MY post verbatum as well. Here it is, unedited.
I was just telling Dave today that just when you think you have seen it all.......The pinacle of stupidity.......This post comes along.
Where do I say that *tim* is stupid? I said, "This post comes along". And when I refer to the "pinacle of stupidity", that is was what I referred to when I was speaking with Dave BEFORE the post went up. ie, it had ZERO to do with ANYTHING on this board. What happens on THIS board or more correctly said, D/R has little affect on my life. Now maybe you all are different and that's YOUR business.
You know, Dave is his own person. He speaks for himself and says whatever he wants. I say what I want as well. To assume that we have a conspriacy going against you (plural, NOT singular) is, well, naive. You have an agenda and that's cool. At some point and time, we ALL do. However I would ask that you leave me out of your attacks. If I spout off about you, directly, then here you go, 1-734-730-2574. Call me. We can work it out. But unless my remedial 2nd grade reading comprehension is phucked up, I don't remember saying anything about you Cope. I would think that tim can speak for himself, right?
Now on this 7 second junk. Do I think its is possible? Yes. Now see what *I* wrote? *I* think, not Dave. Back when low 8's were the norm in SSO, Spetter came along and went 7's at Stanton. When Pro 5.0 was a low 8 second class, Les Baer went deep into the 7's. I ran 9.00's when 9.90's was fast N/A. Cope, its all about being a pioneer. Trying new stuff. Being *Innovative*. Get outside the box. But if you don't know what "outside the box" is, then how do you know when you are "outside the box"? If you do what everyone else does, then you are going to run like everyone else does.
And let me ask you a question. What does what *I* think is possible in D/R affect you? If you think its not possible, that's cool. I have my reasons on why I think a 7 is possible. I see MANY things that have not even been tried , yet. Guys are looking in the wrong place for ET.
I am really busy. Coming back here time & time again and getting into a p*ss*ng match is something I really don't have the time nor the energy to do. If you have something to say to me, please call me. If I had your number, I would have called you. You have your opinion, and that's cool. I have mine as well. Just leave it at that and move on. I have FAR better things to do.......
Thanks.
