Will a smaller diameter spring work in the stock location ?

On my 87 coupe ? I have 15x10 prostars 6.5" BS w/ 275/60 MT DR and I would like to gain some inner wheel well clearance. I've already done some beating but the area where the spring is is still rubbing. I thought maybe a smaller diameter spring would let me beat that area in further.

If this will work, what spec spring do i need ?

Any help would be great !!

Ive seen where wolfe race craft makes a smaller spring for mini tub cars where you have to have the spring in the stock or semi stock location, they are cheap too, like $35
