View Full Version : Coil-over location on the adjuster sleave and strut setting ???

I have an un-known brand of coil-over set up on my car now.
The struts are strange 10ways, the springs are QA1 14" 130's.
Here's the deal, to get the car even close to level the spring adjustment is damn near the top of the adjustment sleave. Is this a sign I need to go to a 14" 150# spring?

What should I be looking for? The springs aren't binding were they are,and being that "bound" should just mean there's a ton of enegry stored for the launch, right?
Or is this an extreme case and the springs are over compressed. (if that is ever an issue?)

the best 60' on the car at this point is a 1.45 with a 200 shot on a 347. The pass was aborted due to the car driving left once it launched. After an adjustment to the anti-roll bar the car went 1.51 (with 100lbs less bottle pressure) and went 6.27 @111 (1/8th)

The car is drama free on launch. I was told it brought the wheels up about 6" but I need to get the car on film to really see.

The struts are set to the middle setting too.
there's another question, where's and optimal "click" ,1-10, setting for these things?! lol

I'd like to see the car 60' in the 1.30's on the 28-12.50 et streets it has on it now.
Here's the whole set up PA tube k-mem & A-arms, you know the rest... oh it also has BBK C/C plates.

Rear: All wolfe, double adjust uppers, single lowers, dual anti-roll bar, un-known rear springs (I think stock V-8), dual air bags ( no air) QA1 10 way adj shocks.

So to re-cap! lol where should I have the front springs on the adjustment sleave? What shoudl be a good setting for the front and rear shocks/struts?

Thanks for reading!

Correct, there is more stored energy when the spring is compressed this much and should be fine. Measure the distance between the coils then measure the number of gaps there are. Multiply these numbers together and this is the amount of distance you have b4 coil bind.
For example: If there are .25” between each coil and there are 12 gaps then you have 3” of compressed distance before coil bind which would be enough. Front springs are probably fine but make sure there is still tension on them at full strut extension. If there is little tension they could be collapsed.

Check to see how much available front end travel you have. You want approx 5”-6” for starters. Set struts approx. 1-2 clicks from full soft and the rear shocks in the middle setting +/- 1 click for starters.

Cool, Thanks!

Another question (possibly a stupid one)....
Which way (clockwise/counter clockwise) is full soft on a strange strut? That's why they are in the middle in the first place! lol
