Curious about what I am reading on my plugs. I have a 400" highport motor, 14:1, two stage NX plate, etc...
I made a pass and click it off at the 330' due to green track and I made some modifications to plate to get some more fuel to corner plugs. I pulled plugs and they were actually there it was great but I noticed that they seemed to put a timing line almost at the end of the ground strap.
I run ngk-r5671a-9 and was running vp-c16. I launched with 22 degrees of timing and pulled out another 8 with the msd.
So my question is do I need to go to 10's or did I not put enough of a pass on the plug to get an actual reading. I only had a 200 shot in the plate and was running an extremely conservative tune. I just can't believe my motor would want even less timing. Thanks for any help.

I run 36 degrees NA and pull out 10 on a 275 shot off a plate and that is still very safe according to my plugs.ngk #8.Just curious why you run so little timing?

Same here I ran the same setup with 36* N/A and pulled 14* with 400shot

I would like to know myself but according to plug reading 101 my plugs are telling me that is what the motor wants. I am a little confused I was able to run a 400 shot with a total of about 22 maybe 20. The only reason I did 22 and pulled out another 8 was because I forgot to download a program for my laptop so it would link with the msd so I just figured that if the msd pulled nothing out at 22 I would be safe. Maybe I am just reading the plug wrong I guess I may start putting timing back in as I can put more passes on the car. I thought maybe I had done something wrong as I ate a few plugs due to timing last year and it gets old quick.

Any update on your tune up?
Did you figure out your timing issues?
Were you running the setup to lean?

I don't think I know how to read a plug. I actually put more timing in the damn thing and the car was fine I think I am at 24 degrees total with a 200 shot. I also added some more fuel and found out I was actually c12 not the c16 I thought I was running. Now I got a brand new plate from NX and have the car apart to add through floor subframe connectors and a parachute. So I was going to go out this weekend but I will probably go motorsport on sunday and bag racing till the following weekend. Thanks John.

Cool, good luck with the car in the future.
Bye the way- if your going to the ford motorsport nats in Reading, go Saturday. Did you see the temps for Sunday? It going to be 98+ degrees!
Is it just me or does the first hot weekend we get every year hit us the same time as maple grove every year?
