We're looking at one for the wife's "summer" car/toy and are just wondering if anybody knows of any potential problems, troubles, or anything in particular to look for???

I'm not REAL familiar with the mod motors, especially the 4 valve so any info would be great.

Once in awhile she'll want to take it to the strip - what kind of ET/MPH should this car run in the 1/4???

What was the power rating from the factory ( and actual )???

We're gonna test drive it Sunday and if it's as good as it sounds we'll probably buy it. My wife's going to give up her current GT and her Explorer and then drive a crap pile ( or I'll drive a pile and she'll drive my dually ) in the winter to have this thing so we want to make sure she'll be happy with it ( and it won't give me any fits either ).

Thanks for all/any info, we appreciate it.

my brothers '04 mach 1 needed a new transmission with less than 3k miles on it.he had been driving very easy to break it in.ive heard this is common.after the new tranny,he added a diablosport predator, flows and 4.30's and ran 12.7's at 104 on 26x10's.hope this helps.

We bought my wife an orange 04 Mach-1 new and have been very happy with it. It is advertised at 310hp. I changed the air filter and installed a mac pro chamber with 2 chamber flowmasters. The car made 296 hp at the rear tires with these small mods. The car went a 8.65 1/8th mile at 84mph on the goodyears that came on the car. I bolted on a set of Mickey Thompson drag radials and tried to launch at about 4000rpm,it broke the left side axle and split the carrier in half.

what was your 60' when you broke the axle?we launched my brothers car at 6k on 26x10's and were pulling low 1.7's with no problems.

I pulled a 1.631 60ft in Bradenton this season - also a 1.644 60ft. This was on 275/40r17 BFG Drag Radials. I heard of a lot of people breaking axles so when I did the 4.10's, I swapped out axles/traklock with 31 spline (moser). The car has been 12.499 at 110.47 with just the following:

Motor: JLT RAI, PHP Intake Spacer, Magnaflow Catted X-pipe, Borla Stinger Cat-Back.
DriveTrain: FRPP Aluminum Driveshaft, Driveshaft Safety Loop, Motive 4.10 Gears, FRPP 31 Spline TrakLock (stock is 28 spline), Moser 31 Spline Axles.
Tires: BFG 275/40R17
Tuning: DiabloSport Predator Mail Order Tune

The car also went 12.70 at 82 MPH on the brakes. Would have been a high 12.3xx run based on the incrementals.

I love this car...

I bought mine in 04, dyno'd it from factory it had 282 rear wheel then only got to 287 with a tune. I ran 12.80 with a k-n filter, and a set of nitto stock size drag radials. I never broke an axel getting 1.59 60' times. I ride the cluth, never dump it. I got those 60' times spraying the car with a 125 shot (only made 354 rwhp) and running 11.80000 consistently. I used to be a gm man, but the damn shaker scoop and those big azz valve covers just did something for me, now I run 9's and put about 6000 miles a year on it.
