well i have had my stang running.. took it down the road today for the first time.. ran really strong.. then it died.. found out that my msd6btm box died.. i wired the ignition straight to the coil without the box.. it started back up.. i left it idling and it just quit running.. havent been able to get it started since... it has a blaster ss coil.. did i fry the tfi module on the distributor?? or could it be worse and something cooked in the ecu?? hooked up my laptop and there are no errors?? please help..

Are you saying that you connected the DFI "points" lead directly to the coil? I have never tried it, but I suspect that the ECU wouldn't like that...

I would start out by seeing if the ECU is picking up RPM (go to Gen VII input diagnostic screen, you should be able to see if the ECU is receiving a crank pulse). If not, TFI module is probably toast. If so, the ECU may be hurt. If you can put a scope or at least a multimeter on the points lead from the ECU you should be able to see a pulse when cranking.

It could be a number of things, hopefully this will get you thinking in the right direction.

well at first i had a msd box hooked up.. car was started and ran in the garage quite a bit.. then i took it down the road.. as i pulled back in the driveway it dies.. came to conclusion that the msd box is toast.. the wiring diagram for my setup showed that the points/ trigger lead goes to coil (-).. i then tried that.. the car started and ran for about 45 seconds (maybe) then it died and i havent got it to start back up... i called accel tech line.. they said that more than likely it did not toast the ecu.. something else like the module would burn out first.. is this true?? i had the module tested autozone ( hey i was desperet) and they said it was good.. i also have a msd distributor that has a tfi module.. basically a factory replacement distributor. i asked accel how much to fix the ecu if it is toast.. they said 75 bucks plus the shipping.. where would you start?? why did my msd6 box get toasted???
