MSD digital retard box ?

anyone ever had a MSD digital 4 stage retard box falsly indicate rpm? I have had mine do some crazy stuff lately, narrowed it to the retard box, it would get to turning some rpm and then the tach would shoot to 10k and the ign would seem to quit, let off and let the engine come down a bit and everything would be fine again. I unplugged the distributor from the retard box and into the digital 6 and the problem has gone away. I have checked all connections and the ign switch, with no problems found. Anyone ever heard of this?

In my opinion get rid of that digital 6. I just went through two of them. Last year I had a problem with the rev limiter kicking in whenever it wanted at 3,500 and it was set a 7,000. So I got a new box this year and the first race out the engine would loose power at 6,500 and and it sounded like it started missing at 7,000. I ran car on chassis dyno and found that the engine actually started to miss at 6,500 causing lack of power and started to really miss at 7,000 that's what I heard at the track. I installed a good ol' 6al and problem is gone. 6 digital plus=garbage (IMO).

I run the digital 4 step retard with digital 7 ,no problems.

thanks guys....MSD says I have a RF noise problem...they talked me into a shielded distributor cord.....less than 22 bucks with tax!...I havent run the car since I installed it so I cant say they're right or wrong.

Funniest part of all of this is that it never acted up (in car for over 100 passes without being set up to do anything )until I actually set up one of the retards and sprayed the car.....the strangest part is that it doesn't do it every time.....it might do it once per pass and then the next pass it wont do it at all, then the pass after that it does it every time you try to turn more than 6000RPM. all of this is just on motor...I havent sprayed it since that one pass and wont until I know the engines gonna stay running the whole way down the track!

88 stang...it had the same problem with the old 6al...I changed TO the digi to eliminate the 6al, 2 step and pills..nuthin changed....
what was MSD's take on your digi box's? I am sure you sent them in for a check out/warranty repair right? How is MSD to deal with on repairs?
