Man, is it nice to have (relatively) cool weather for a change! And no snow, either, for those who recall last year's late-April US 131 event. Seems like we're in for a weekend of good racing and broken records. Here's what's going on:

Friday News & Rumors

http://promediapub.com/filehost/files/3/us131/friburt1.jpghttp://promediapub.com/filehost/files/3/us131/friburt2.jpgTeam Aruba has a new weapon in their DiabloSport Pro 5.0 arsenal – while the chassis is new to driver Burt Kelkboom, it’s been around the block a few times, and combined with their existing well-sorted motor combination, Kelkboom was able to run 6.82 at 209 on his first hit off the trailer in testing. Extra style points for the cool “ghost” palm trees on the spoiler, too.

http://promediapub.com/filehost/files/3/us131/fribooze.jpgSomebody better tell Edelbrock Hot Street pilot Charlie Booze he should be holding a little bit back in testing; his first pass on Friday had him on the bumper for the first 150 feet, settling back down to earth for a friction-limited 9.20. Over the course of the day, Booze got down into the 8.90’s, making a total of four passes in his usual bracket-racer fashion.

http://promediapub.com/filehost/files/3/us131/fribilly.jpgThe ET record for MSD Super Street Outlaw stands at 7.55, but that may not last the weekend – Billy Laskowski planted a 7.526 today, with tire shake at the top end making him lift before the stripe. Based on his short times, he’s going to take a serious run at 7.50 before they turn out the lights on Sunday.

Speaking of SSO, current championship frontrunner Sam Vincent showed up today with a last-minute addition to his usual bodywork – a carbon fiber Pro Stock scoop poking through his cowl hood.

http://promediapub.com/filehost/files/3/us131/friuno.jpgThe folks from the University of Northwestern Ohio were on the premises today with their 12-second Cougar. If you want to learn to build engines for everything from truck pulling to Top Fuel, UNO can help. Look for a ProCharger EFI Renegade Mustang with big “UNO” letters on the side in the future.

http://promediapub.com/filehost/files/3/us131/friclemmons.jpgJust when you thought that BFGoodrich Tires Drag Radial couldn’t get more competitive, 2004 champion Phil Clemmons will be returning to NMRA competition in 2007 to make a run for the championship. You can be he’ll be a major threat with Team Z suspension, a Fox Lake powerplant, and a ProCharger.

http://promediapub.com/filehost/files/3/us131/frilee.jpgJason Lee plans on adding a little flavor to his clean red “panda” this season. Look for some wild graphics from Sticker Dude to cover up some local testing battle wounds on his passenger side. We suggested black flames.

http://promediapub.com/filehost/files/3/us131/friroush.jpgRoush introduced another ’05 to their fleet this weekend. The car, dubbed Coal Digger 6, is built to be somewhat of a racecar test-bed for Roush as it features a quick-disconnect front radiator support that makes engine swaps a snap, not to mention a ton of other trick details. Don Bowles will be covering the driving duties and has already been high nines in testing.
