Im in the same boat as you.just switched to the big shot also.Use to run the edelbrock with 250 jets and never had an issue.I think the -4 line on the edelbrock really hurts the volume which always gives it a rich tune.I would flip the jetting and still be rich.First time out with the Big shot and I jutted the #4 plug did some damage to the piston and lifted the head gasket between #3-4.I made more power with the big shot over the edelbrock.Picked up .2 in the 1/4 and 2mph in the 1/8.I think it may be in the intake.Im using a Victor Jr.

it is the intake. I just pulled my heads(no nitrous) and 1 and 2 were very lean with an unported super victor.

I heard somewhere down the line that the 2 front cylinders usually get starved for fuel upon acceleration because the fuel is being forced towards towards the back of the intake & therefore being sucked up by the last 6 cylinders...........

I dont know where i heard this but it makes sense to some degree ........

I was also told from some friends who are running turbos on 4cyl cars that ,, You could run a separate fuel line to a nitrous nozzel that was plumbed into the front 2 intake bosses.......... the nozzel would be used for supplying fuel Only .............

** Im no expert but,, this is something that i have heard about ........ Make any sense ???????????

Hey Guys,

The small block Fords are well know for being lean and or hurting there four corner cylinders. I used to think it was something in the single four manifolds myself ?? But after doing a couple of nice sheet metal intakes for a few of B.E.S.'s customers as well as a couple of Hogan sheet metals for some other I quickly found out it was not any of the cast manifolds, there runner, or plenum designs. There are some modifications that can help, but these cylinders still show up sooner or later.

Most conventional plates start to show the problem around the 200-250 jetting. A "cross" style plate will help cover this problem sometimes ?? The best way to go is a direct port system. The you can control these issues a lot better... Hope this help... Steve

Im gonna run a rpm plate kit on a super victor, just wondering if you can mask this problem a bit by running the system on the rich side? If not I guess I better start drilling my intake!!!;)

FOGGER the only way to go!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve Johnson

Ronnie, Redneck is correct. A direct port system is the best fix. It's not uncommon when you get in the mid 200 horsepower and above for these problems to start. I can guarentee you if you put a direct port system on you will be able to go quicker and faster with more reliability. Most importantly, that will make you and the WIFE happier !! LOL Please feel free to let me know if I can help you out if you decide you want to go with a new direct port system. I would be glad to plumb your intake, flow it and get you set up with a SAFE baseline. Thanks for your time.. Steve

It would be great to go with a fogger but, the rules are as follows: MODIFIED Street is a heads-up class designed for passenger cars and trucks from a major manufacturer weighing a minimum of 3,100 pounds. Powered by SMALL BLOCKS ONLY with a maximum cubic inch limit of 440 cubic inches. Nitrous only one plate only. One nitrous solenoid, One fuel solenoid, One purge solenoid ONLY. One Nitrous bottle only. Purge must be redundant inline with nitrous supply line with only one supply line. Canted Valve heads allowed add 100 pounds weight. After Market blocks and cylinder heads allowed. Intakes must be cast no welding No sheet metal intakes allowed. Single carburetor only. Motor plates and solid mounts allowed. Engine in stock location and must not touch firewall. Mufflers required on all vehicles no inserts. Turbochargers and superchargers are not allowed. Progressive controlers are not allowed.

Also it might be that I do not have a adequate fuel supply for 250 HP. I have "Y"ed two holley blue pumps together.

Ronnie, When you say you have the two Holley pumps "Y"'d together are they feeding the engine and nitrous or just nitrous ?? Also, your rule state one nitrous and one fuel solenoid. One plate, does it define if the plate has spray bars or nozzles in it ??? Steve

Steve, you have my attention on the nozzles in the plate idea, I think I need to hear a little more about this. This might be the ticket for the "plate" class restrictions:D .
