As the 2006 NMRA season comes into the home stretch, we've never seen so
many different classes still up for grabs. Less than three rounds of racing
separate the top four in BFGoodrich Tires Drag Radial, with 5.0 Magazine
Real Street, Tremec Pure Street, ProCharger EFI Renegade, and K&N Filters
Factory Stock all still too close to call. But the tightest battle of all
this season will be in DiabloSport Pro 5.0, where three-time champion Don
Walsh, Jr. is in the fight of his life to defend his title against Mike
Hauf, currently tied in points. But in Atco, New Jersey this weekend, both
men will have a new threat on their radar, NMRA "rookie" Tony Bischoff, who
made his Pro 5.0 debut just two races ago, holds both ends of the current
Pro 5.0 record at 6.598 and 212.66 mph, and has yet to lose a single
competition round. Will he continue his streak and end Walsh's reign as the
winningest champion in Pro 5.0 history? Can Mike Hauf make a run for
daylight and capture the points title that eluded him in 2005? Atco will be
the turning point, and you can see NMRA racing history being made live and
in person.
