Just wanted to know if anyone is having any luck with keeping a G-force together and is so how? Is any one else running any other trans that will live? We have broken ours 2 times in the last month and just trying to keep it together.

Thanks
Chris

Good luck!!!!!!!!! I have two tranny's and between both they have broken 7 times this year. Just broke the main shaft in one and 3rd in the other. My thought on how to make it live is to keep it in the trailer while the Tremec takes all the abuse:rolleyes:

Who makes the best Tremec and do you think it will slow you down over the G-force? Is anyone running a Tremec currently?
Thanks

hmmm, make it down the track consistantly or not at all would be my concern.

You could always put your aod back in..... :D

I know Ron was proposing a weight rule to run a tremec but dont know if he submitted it.

I dont make the HP you guys do, so I dont break mine as often ;)

Well we talked about putting the AOD back in but don’t think it would run and 50 or 60 so I am going up to G-force on Thursday to have the trans fixed so we can make Columbus. We were just looking to get a spare and I talked to Ron about getting a Liberty TKO so we will see what happens in the off-season. Ryan you can’t talk about being down on power I’m sure you will see 20’s this weekend if we have good air. Good luck testing tomorrow.

I have a TKO 500 with face plates, no 5th, done by ProMotion in Nov. 2004. Used one race, Michigan 2005. $2000
I have a TKO II Proshifted by Bob Hanlon, Has between 10-15 passes. Used in a 11 second Pure Street car in 2003. Not been used since. In perfect shape $1600.
I have a TKO II that I had Liberty do some work on the gears and I put it together and have used it for a couple of years. It was my ol' faithful, just finished the freshen up the other day. New slider and and new 2nd. It is Pro-ring 3-4 and face plated 2nd. No 5th gear $1600
And a G-Force 3.22 with stock out put and stock case. an affordable spare $1500. Fresh by G-Force.

Just got back from G-Force and the guys fixed it and we are about to leave. The T-5 guy at G-Force said they may start making the 3.22 gear set in Helical dog ring soon. :D

They have had those gear sets for a little over a year now, Just not going to make but one more run of them and then they are discontinuing that gear ratio. That's what everyone is having problems with.

The ones in the parts bin were strait cut.

Gene,
We broke 2 selector plates in 3 passes at Columbus this weekend. These plates appear to be too hard. Anybody else have this issue? How did you get thru it.

Misalignment of the bellhousing will cause some stupid things break inside the trans. But to fix the selector plate problem, you will either need to give yourself more airgap in the clutch and/or make sure the shifter is adjusted properly. The clutch is still dragging when you are trying to shift and makes it harder for the trans to come out of gear and into the next one. Also, Over travel of the shiter will cause the selectors break and the faceplates on the gears will/can break too.

I have a couple of TKO's left for those that have finished off their other trans.

What is a good air gap with a centerforce lmc clutch we are around .055

Thanks

Just started to read tech stuff again....yeah interest in cars as wained somewhat...so my understanding of the lingual is way off:
1) G-Force tranny is meant to be the modified T-5? Does it break from shifting? Do these trans need clutch use on shifts?
2) Where is the selector plate? That can't be the plate that guides the fork lever-where the bottom ball end of the shifter sits in. Or is it?
3) Is the 2.95 first not enough for the highwinding 3" stroke SBF?
I am sure I got more questions. I just find this class fascintating yet unexpectantly full of attrition.

I love Pure Street!!! Rev on!!!

yes, they break when shifting, and yes you better use the clutch when shifting!

Selector link is in the top plate, one for 1-2 and one for 3-4

Most are breaking the 3.22 units wether it be 2nd or 3rd gear but the 2.92's are failing as well.

Stock in TTC should go up soon!!!

So is it traceable....oh thanks Teddy!...to the selector plate failing? So when the that goes the shifter rail overrides?
Again the shifter plate is that channeled guide plate, eh?
Wow! Gets me bummed that the G-Force T-5s don't handle. That trans would be great for my use. Or are you guys up there just some incredible Hulking guys?
Anyway thanks for the info.

I agree with you Teddy, the 2.92's are failing too. I have broken my 3rd gear face-tooth twice in 3 months and 3 times in a year. I talked to the guy at G-force and he was saying it sounds like "WE" are not gettin in on the clutch enough. He also said he hasnt heard of anyone breaking them........thats funny he should read this board. Do you guys think that its the diapraghm clutches??? What about lobbying for Long style clutches??

I have the 2.92 box and after 1 pass i broke 3rd. I called g-force and they said "its my clutch and that its too hard hitting". So they know people are breaking these things left and right with the type of clutch you are allowed to run in PS,RS, and FS. I think it would be nice to see them allow people to use an adjustable clutch like a soft-loc or similar. Then maybe they won't break as much or it would prove that the trans just aren't up to the task no matter what type of setup you have.

I wish you lot's of luck. This would be a easy simple fix to the breakage issues the racers are experiencing in FS, PS, and RS even with the good billet G-Force internals, however for some reasons unknown, the NMRA will not budge off of the mandatory diapragm clutch rule.

I'm not so sure its the clutch thats causing 2nd and 3rd gear/s to break. Oh well its a moot point now.......Super Secret Service TKO 500 is installed:D
