View Full Version : What should my et's be to be competitive in Pure Street?

And do you think a street car can do it? Does anyone "off the street" even attempt to compete?

probably somewhere in the 10.25's-10.55's a street car could do it but how streetable it would be is another story....... if your looking to do something like that, why not run wild street if you wanna run a street car?

I kind of like the limitations put on the class, such as no power adder. Seems like a little more of a challenge, with fewer cars but similar setups. What kind of rear end ratios are you guys running? How much horsepower and torque? Can anyone post an interior pic of your car? Just curious I guess.

I consider myself to be fairly competetive. I was anywhere from 10.30's to 10.70's with a few 11 sec passes due to the "Check Driver" light being turned on at the moment I sat down.

How many cars usually compete (not necessarily make it to every race). Are there any "weekend warriors" that do any good?

Don't worry John.

I am not going anywhere. I love Pure Street. This is the most fun and satisfying race class for me. I have NO desire to run a power adder, NO desire to run not so factory factory stock, and definately NO desire to go mush faster. Pure Street is for me for now.

So, as long as everyone stays in the class for a bit and keeps working hard at their combos we should all be within .2 of each other. Eveyone knows I get very sleepy on the starting line waiting for Victor Downs to stage and sometimes is very hard for me to wake up in time and end up chasing him down the track to lose on a light. But hey, thats racing and I wouldnt have it any other way. .2 really doesnt mean alot then.

I am looking forward to next season more than this one passed. I am no longer a rookie and ready to step up to the challenge of being number 1. So, any predictions on who will be chasing who down the track in 2007? Is Ron Anderson coming back? Anyone know what Brad Meadows is doing? Hopefully they return (with an extra 100 pounds strapped to them). :D

Ron and Brad + 100 pounds = 10.40's

Most EFI guys = 10.40's

4v EFI guys= 10.40's

Ron told me he made close to the same power (within 5hp) with EFI as he did with a carb. Maybe he will switch to EFI and be able to remove the 25 pounds he had this year.

Personally I think it should be EFI only. Factory stock is EFI only, Real Street is EFI only, Renegade is EFI only..... So why is pure street in the middle of them with a carburetor?

Eh, either way.... bring the rules out so I can decide if I am running a carb or not :D

Other than F/S .. Those other classes are power adder classes. They have enough problems!

Keep the carbs in! P/S has always been a Hot Street "Jr" type of class so why screw with it? Unless you make silver cars illegal. :D

I believe that if you look at the champs in any class, you will see guys who have spent a lot of time in that class AND have been at a whole lot of races working their way up! My advice is to go out and try it a few times. you may love it and be hooked on it, working your rear off to get quicker, or it may not be for you and you may spend your time at home making up excusses on the internet.

This is what I have for last year....

FL- 13 cars
GA- 11 cars
PA- 16 cars
MI- 12 cars
IL- 13 cars
NJ- 12 cars
OH- 17 cars
KY- 14 cars
Last year there were only (3) racers that attended all events and there was a total of 24 racers that competed in PS last year

This year in FL there was only 11 cars. Hopefully GA will have a bigger car count =)

Thank you Mark, and I agree! BEING an 11-12 sec car (and 1 10.99 & 10.86 lol) that if you don't get out there & do it, you won't learn anything. I had a year from hell in 06 & I can assure that it wont take place again. Yes Thanks to Pakman Motorsports and many others, I am building a new car & yes I have done somethings different from 06. Will it be competitive? Who knows Ill probally find out soon. Will it be in the 10.60s, yes I had it there in testing after Bowling Green last year with no changes, with the other chassis, the changes that were done I cant wait to see what I get.

The tree being your friend has helped me a few times, even being qual. on the bottom 1/2. With a car that is competitive and my "friend" I do hope to go a few rounds this year. It takes time & in my case, breakage to an extreme! Then again drag racing is drag racing & you never know what can happen.

On some of the rockers, the roller is half-off of the stem! I was told that this could be because the rockers are for canted valve heads, not inline...what do you guys think? when you say half off the stem, which way? Side to side or vertically? If vertically it is likely in your pushrod length. If side to side try loosening the studs and moving the guide plate to obtain the propery geometry. I don't think the SVO rockers are designed specifically for canted heads:confused:

Thats wrong buddy. I hate to bring it back up. But I went out last year knowing I had no chance in hell, but I did it for the fun and expierence. I had never driven a stick car before spring of last year and when we went to MG it was a blast, got to meet some really good ppl who helped ALOT! I know I was a 1st rounder before we even got to the races, I made last round of qualifying and waited till Sunday race time. Class was called and it was me and Jimmy from Fla against each other in the staging lanes. Jimmy blew my doors off, I was nervous as anything you could imagine. But I got to tech and I was ready to go put my junk on the trailer until Charlie or one of other techs told me to wait just in case Jimmy did not pass his fuel tech. Think about it, failing fuel tech I could have easily went another round without even trying.
First time I got in my car last year I ran 12 something, in the fall I pulled my best ET down to a 11.13. Would I do again this year, damn straight. Just for the fun of it. But! (and I am not making up excuses) the car has been sitting all winter waiting for some well deserved upgrades and I will do them as time and money allow.

TO THE ORIGINAL POSTER - if you see a class you like go talk to the racers. None of the classes are easy to get into or cheap - but if you have something that fits the rules, try it and see if you like then you can always upgrade and go faster!

Thanks BigEd. Im going to be getting a cam, carb and cage, and see what I can do! Does anyone have a recommendation on a carb? Right now I have and edelbrock performer series 750 carb, which is too big for the stock bottom end and AFR 165 head combo, so I was thinking about the demon line, but the edelbrock seems as if it would be easier to tune.

I'm glad to hear that you had fun Ed at your first race:D I did that back in 2005 in joliet when i first ran in P/S with a 11.70 pass!!! From my standpoint i wouldn't bring a 11 or 12 sec car out anymore to race in P/S. We did some testing at US.41 over the weekend and we picked up alot from last year:D So we'll see what happens...Now if i can just leave on time i'll be onto something!!!

I just don't want this guy walking away being discourage or taken the wrong way over what someone said on the internet.
Yeah we had fun. Debi and Eddie had lots of fun, got to meet new friends and see some old ones. Once we got home, Deb asked me what it take to get the car where it needed to be. Well I told her one was more pratice and the other was more $$$; when I told her how much more (I thought) I almost had to carry her into the house from the shock! LOL
But I do have some long over do updates that are coming along (slowly) but I will get it eventually. :)

And if i where you i'd stay away from that Edelbrock Carb & demon carbs:( Get a Pro-System( See Patrick) 650hp series XLR. It's a very good start for ya.
