Anybody see the new issue of Car Craft Magazine with the Mustang Vs Chevy shootout? The Mustang got is butt whooped for some reason they were having problems with it.
Anybody read the story?

I didn't read the article but Car Craft seems to ALWAYS favor Chevy's. That magazine sucks anyway!

I don't understand why they didn't use Henry's car for the shoot out, besides the guy with chevy AKA Ratboy, is a street racer that is notrious for Hidden units...

I will agree with you there to an extent...But Henry D is a ford guy at heart, and he has done alot with the fords in that magazine. Give him a break, I am sure he can only work with what is given to him.

Besides, the Twins were featured so how bad can CC be????
Now with my buddy Marco in the midst with HD, there'll be more Ford stuff.....

Glad to see we've become the center of attention on so many forums with that particular story. For all you nay sayers, I will say that story was true to heart and we didn't fill it with any BS. While we didn't win the race, I believe we (as in the Blue Oval camp) won in the long run. The motor built by Coast High Performance proved to be a consistent performer with well over 150 passes of testing that were deep in the 11's at LACR (4,000 plus elevation on a decent day), several 10.90 motor passes at 124 mph at Famoso Raceway, along with a few 10.18-10.22 runs at 137 mph on a small 150 shot of nitrous.
While we didn't "win" per say in the article, we did show that tuning does matter during race day and not to mention, we were the only ones to run into the 10's on the motor alone. Also, to those that claim we're a "Chevy" only book, I'll have you know that on a recent motor hop up, including a Crane Cams solid roller, Edelbrock Super Victor manifold, and a Holley 950 HP carb---we made 626 hp (again) on pump gas and beat out the 406 mouse by a wide margin. You should also know that we've already put that motor into a back half car weighing in at 2,800 pounds with a driver and plan on topping it off with a fat nitrous shot with the new NX HVH plate system. Not bad for a "Chevy" mag huh? :) Keep the faith guys, we're really about all makes and brands, no matter what people may say.
Regards,
Henry D
PS Hey Ed, your guy Marco is a pain!J/K :D He's a good guy and glad to have him on the team!

Damn, dude. Ain't like you can return an e-mail or call or anything! Leaves me no option other than to put you on BLAST here in the NMRA's new forum! Hahahahahaha! What's up, Big Rick? What's the deal with the latest acquisition? You get that thing all Vortech'd up yet? It's definitely one of those perfect cars to get busy with...did the thing even have a K&N on it?!
Hope you're doing OK. I'm going to have to take a ride up the freeway at some point and have you buy me lunch! Take it easy, man. See 'ya!
Oh, and to those who disputed or had a problem with Hank's story in Car Craft, the little 'Stang MORE than held its own with the Coast High Performance 408 under the hood. I personally witnessed both the construction of that car for the shootout, and many of the test sessions and passes before...and after the shootout. The car ran HARD. Period. The shootout was basically "one of those race days." We've all had 'em, and Henry told the story like it went down. No "bias" toward Chevrolet. Pound for pound, the Mustang was the "better car" and Rat Boy (hardcore Chevy man who drove the Nova) even acknowledged how much easier it was to drive over the Nova, when he got a chance to drive the 'Stang a few weeks later.
All in all, it was a good deal. A chance for some local cats from here in the Valley and who are my friends to get some national exposure. Just wanted to add what I know about that whole "shootout" deal 'cause I was here to see it all happen.

Guess the "dumb like that" goes hand in hand with the ugly you're saddled with! Guess I don't need an e-mail returned THAT bad. Ain't no WAY you're gonna get knife info outta me! Then again...if you were, say, able to get the Big Brown Truck to deliver one of those new Vortech kits for a carbureted application to me, I could "possibly" be nice enough to give you a few strong leads...
You coming up to Sal's deal at LACR in the late summer?

Ok guys....
Henry hardly wanted to have them win. Believe me. As owner of the silver coupe that CC put the 408 in, I can tell you that there are many things that couldn't be written because of space and time
Basically what happened was that the Chevy guys had an HP750carb that they used for the dyno and the race... we didn't have one. so we had to get the car running so we could tune it
When I got the engine, there was no carb... so I had to use mine.
We kept tuning and got it to run the 10.90@122 at LACR.
The problem happened when we put the mufflers on the night before.
Experience and history tells us that you are supposed to lean a car out when you put mufflers on it. that was the bug we were chasing. we put a different carb on it and it was acting up as well.
By the time we got my carb back on and started tuning, the shoot was over.
The following week, we did a compression check and found nothing wrong. I started playing with jets and ended up putting 13 jet sizes larger in front and 11 in the back. When we went back to the track, we went consistent 11. teens at 118-119
who would have thought it wanted that much fuel with the mufflers.
then we went to Famoso and ripped off several 10.80 passes at 124 at 3250 lbs with 60 ft's in the 148-151 range
the icing on the cake was when Ratty drove my car for a tire test a few weeks later and went faster in hotter weather than he ever did in the nova. He said my coupe was like driving a cadillac.
he was really surpised how hard it launched with only 355 gears.
Poetic justice as far as I am concerned. He knows he git luxky, but it is what happens on race day that matters.
Not to mention the 10.17 @137 with only a 150 shot of juice and a tire spinning 1.7 60 ft.
