Believe me, I hope he moves it back to St Louis as well since I **** 10-minutes from the track. But, we can send a big "THANKS" to the NHRA for the movement away from ST Louis.

The NHRA moved their weekend back to the beginning of May here in ST Louis. So, you had the WFC 2 weekends later. The problem from a Fan standpoint, where George makes a good chunk of his money, is that they don't want to go to 2 big races just 2 weekends apart. Unfortunately, the majority of the fans will choose the NHRA over the WFC. The NHRA tends to tap a LOT of money out of the fans as well. They don't have any money left over to go to the WFC. Which would have been only the next payday. SO, that I'm sure is the reason that the World Promotions group chose another venue to hold it at. Once again, thank the NHRA. I'll be honest, I don't even like watching the Top Fuel and Funny Cars, they are just too dang unrealistic. Give me a street legal Super-Street-Outlaw Doorslammer anyday of the week !!!

Everyone was at home, or their local track. Gas prices had some effect on the event. WFC has also priced themselves out of business. I raced in O/C from WFC3-WFC9. They jacked the price up from $150 to $225 last year. It WAS the biggest class they had, but the car count dropped by at least half. I think moving to INDY was the last straw for them. Hearing things about the $10,000 give away being a hoax/scam just adds to the list of reasons NOT to go!!!! Bowling Green NMRA World Finals is definitely the event to attend.

I enjoyed the WFC. There were a lot of factors going against the promoters of the event. Across the US there were a lot of other races going (NSCA - Atco, NOPI - MIR, ORSCA - Atlanta, PSCA - Vegas I think) which gave racers an option with the gas prices where they are. The qualifying for the Indy 500 seemed to pull some fans away on Sunday as well. I thought the drag radial guys put on a great show. Mike Keenan was on a pass until it decided to stand up at 300 ft. and break some parts on the landing. Another guy did a 180 without hitting anything. If it weren't for parts breakage, I'm sure even more impressive times would've been put up.

i thought it was a good time but definitly st. luise is better for the spectator closer parking more stands bigger crowds more to do in town after the track closes
but the track seemed to be working for the racers new fastest time in pro 5.0 couple big wheel stands in different classes didn't here to many racers bitching

Here we go...................

Sarge,

You have just opened the "can of worms" thread.
Speak of worms...what the hell happen to your car sun evening? We were watching from the stands when you came back, got out of the car and ripped the starting line guy for what I would assume would be less then good track conditions. True?

They hardly ever got the mop out at Indy. I have been to a few good strips and that was odd to not see the mop out. I mean, there is always somebody who brings a little water from the burnout box to the launch pad. Especially with as many street cars as there was. Seems like at other tracks, the mop is out about every two or three passes. They didn't get the tractor out but about three times a day on Sat and Sun. Granted, I didn't watch every single pass down the strip but I saw the most of it. It also seemed to me that the starter was more interested in just taking a smoke break instead of prepping the track.

That moron starter also would spray the bald spots without resin and screw up the next few cars' traction.

He did that a lot too.

Larry, glad you didn't wreck because you were soo out of shape I thought for sure you were gonna hit the wall. I thought you broke the rear, but apparently it was the track prep or lack of. I am glad you yelled at them, somebody needed to. The track was junk all weekend, just look at the number of aborted passes. I have never ever seen soo many IHRA cars along with others who know what they are doing have down track issues. I think it would be great to see WFC have its own track staff for the event.

Larry,
From what I can recall the only times they really dragged the track was right before Pro Mod ect.
Talk about crew...what about the waterbox guy. You have got to be kidding me, this guy was ALWAYS in the way. When you have someone else putting you in the water that guy needs to get the hell out of the way!
Anyways, awesome good keeping that beast out of the wall Larry! And good for you for actually saying something, most people I don't think would have bothered.

The indy crew scrapped the whole starting line sat night.I pulled up by the fence where the car show was and could not belive my eyes. There was NO rubber at the line starting line for first round eliminations. And it didn't help us at all when that silver sallen D.R car, left the starting line and oilled down the whole left lane.Thats allways been Respectful to your fellow racers, when you know your junk hurt and you do a half ass fix.Oil rags fallen out at the starting line 330 and 1000ft.thanks Mike.

I did not mean to get oil on the track! we put a diaper on it but the damage to the oil pan from the hard landing did to much damage . This is why i decided not to make the second round ! thanks mike

why not come back with all of the classes like the good old days, ps, rs, ren, etc... semmed like there was no heads up classes...I love outlaw drag radial and sso but everyone likes all of the heads up classes like you used to have.

I went to WFC 1, 3 and 4. Didnt make it to 2 but I think #1 and 3 were the best turnouts. I know that FFW and NMRA classes that were similar and then changed to drastically away from one another had something to do with the dwindling car counts.

What i think should be done:

-bring all the classes back and bring them with a purse worth the drive to WFC
-scheduling is gonna be tricky too, there are several other racing classes (heads up) that draw the cars that would normally come to WFC. ie NOPI, NSCA,
-oh did i mention the Purse

the pro purse is nice but us "little" guys can fo race for 500-1000 locally for the most part every weekend.

more purse to attract more cars, more classes to attract more cars, more cars will attract more people, more people would fund the MORE PURSE

thats all

That whole crew looked like a bunch of winners. I work at Route 66 and almost called one of my bosses Friday afternoon to have him send a crew down to show those idiots how to run a race and prep a track. I got there early Thursday so that I could get some seat time in the car and that didn't happen. I know it was cold Thursday, but they seemed to wait 5-10 minutes after every car went down to send the next set. Plus, I can't believe that they were all standing there smoking at the starting line. I was told that Indy was a "hole", I believe it now. I doubt I'll go back and race there again. I talked to one guy who lives 45 minutes from there and he would rather drive 1 hr and 15 minutes to go to US 41 and race. Another guy lived there in town and he can't believe how poorly run the track is either. Like I've heard, they **** for the U.S. Nationals and that's it. Everybody else is just a peon.

It does seem like over the years that the spectator count has declined some every year, going to a new venue, I figured it wouldn't be better the first time there, maybe it will be better next year( I hope). $3/gallon gas doesn't help any ,along with a few other races that same weekend.

As for the track prep goes, I thought it was great most of the weekend!

As far as WFC being at Indy, I think it's the perfect place, I mean it's where the US Nationals are for christ sakes, and why shouldn't the pinical of Ford racing be there too. I thought it was very cool for the WFC to move to Indy.

The Manufacturers mid-way being on the opposite side of the track was not a good idea I thought, made for a lot of walking all weekend for the fans/spectators.

I do believe like the rest of you that $40K is a bit much for ProMod 5.0, they could shrink it back to $30K, which is still a lot, and take the other $10 grand and pay for two more classes.

I would also like to see, at least H/S, REN, ( or maybe a H/S vs. REN with a 300lbs drop for H/S ) and R/S there as well as a more restricted D/R class so the NMRA cars can be competitive. The entry fee for the two outlaw class is rediculous too, Pro 5.0 is $350 entry to win $40grand ( less than 1% entry ratio), While the two outlaw classes are $300 entry to win $10,000 ( 3% entry ratio)

The $10,000 give away to a fan seems like a hoax too, I certainly hope it isn't and someone gets the the $$$$. It wouldn't we good for their image.

In closing it does seem like some of the excitement/electricity amongst the WFC has lessened. I sure hope they make some changes to bring that back.

And Lastly, It was way up there on the "cool factor" winning at Indy, and hope WFcC is at Indy in 2008 again.

Outlaw Drag radial cars have about 3 big races a year, WFC, Orlando and Bradenton. I say the class is fine as is. A few of the top NMRA radial cars could have done as well as anybody there this year.

Hell Kolivas got past me at the local 1/8 mile track Saturday night and went on to win the whole thing, There were 5 7 second 1/4 mile cars in the field.

Radial tires are a great equalizer.

The track sucked until Saturday night in my opinion.

Larry,

I talked to my head starter Sunday and he said he had a hard time getting them to drag the track during a Divisional race. He says they are really bad on track prep and just care about the Nationals.

I went out friday on a test pass, stood it up hard on the wheelie bars, then in 1st rd. qualifying ,went 1.141, 3.129, 4.783@149, 6.204, 7.414@185.

I thought friday afternoon was the best it was all weekend.

You definately had your **** together. Congratulations on the win!

Though a 3510 lb 2500 horse stock suspended radial car needs a really good track surface, pretty much a perfect one a 1/4 mile long. St. Louis last year was a way better track all weekend.

BTW Have you had any dealing with A-1 Technologies?

I understand where you are coming from. it's ironic I did so well on what you call a bad track, 28 x 10.5" remember, and at St. Louis last year on what was called a " good track", I couldn't seem to get down it for some reason. Makes you Hhmmm, doesn't it.

I'll put my 2 cents in and be done. I don't caree where the race is held. I didn't go this year because the classes I enjoy watching were not there. No real street no me and a lot of my friends saw it the same way. Indy is much closer to me and I was excited about it until I saw what all classes had be removed.

I thought the track worked real good Fri morning and most of the weekend for me till sunday Eliminations. I was a car or two in front of Larry. The track was gone for me on that pass. I drove my car way through the 1/8th and never recovered. I really liked the 2 Open Comp races where they determined both competitiers were winners! Yes there are ties in Drag racing. I dont think it was Fair to the other 41 people who payed their hard erned money to not have a rerun or sit down with a Calculator and figure out who won.

I heard he signed a 3 year deal to be there for until 2010. So I am sure it won't be a good turnout till it returns back to St. Louis!

The only thing crowded about the area is the 2 way road leading into the track. I have been to some really big events there and they've always been able to handle the cars & spectaters. What other track do you know of that has a nice campground and an amusement park?

http://www.beechbend.com/

What WE all need to do is drop George Gonzalez, President of the WFC an email or 1,000 and let him know what WE want.

Somebody more computer savy than me needs to come up with an on-line petition to send to him.

i think its an awesome facility. Hell, my fiance and I changed out wedding date because it fell on the same weekend as the NMRA BG race this year.

the road going in sucks if you dont get there early but then again, when you do get there early enough you end up having COWS blocking the road
