The site did close down last night. Im really not the one to give specifics but from what I understand the guys running the show were going in new directions with their personal lives and with the added expenses of running the site, they just shut it down rather then give someone else the reigns and possibly ruin the good name that GDR has become over the years. RIP. It will be missed.

There isn't anyone who would pay $850k for that site, or any other car-related site on the internet.

why not? gdr was voted best site and in my opinion i think it was. so you are saying he just said **** it and closed up shop? he could have easly passed it along to his friends mark ans matt who helped run the site. so you know he got paid off it just shut down.
850k aint much for a good site, you tube got paid was it 15 billion dollors for the guy who started it???

I'm not saying gDR was a bad site at all. I know Mark and Matt personally, and I wouldn't insult them that way. They have done a lot for the sport in the Northeast, there is no doubt about that. But nobody that I know of in or out of this industry would invest that kind of money in a website, period. I know what it takes to own and manage one, and the opportunity to recoup your money is virtually nil. Nobody would make an almost million-dollar investment in anything without the chance to recoup their investment, and in today's economy especially. It's not financially feasible.

Guys, these rumors are out of hand, I explained my position and it was purely my families health issues and my own problem of being overwhelmed with usually doing 41 events a year. Things for me were stale to a point, as in writing and more.
Jason is right. No one in their right mind would invest that kind of money as the economy is poor. When we started, I footed the bill for costs and never took a dime for anything and I'll back that up. Matt was always the business end and yes we could heve done much better but we didn't in that sense.
Most don't know what all gDR was responsible for in many ways with allowing usage of their materials and with it was a handshake agreement. Over 10yrs of content and usage rights for companies is involved. gDR was a business and still is so anyone who's ever sold a business needs to understand it's more than just handing stuff over.
gDR was Matt's baby, and my oppourtunity to spend alot of time on the track with some awesome racers, but feel I'm not capable of doing it right anymore with facing the health issues with my family and being away so much.
I couldn't put a price on this but we've been offered substantial amounts, that's Matt's business. All of you have been great over the years and I too am sad to not be there anymore or for a timely break needed.
This all happened so fast yet we knew back in our minds that the net is changing and I can see crowds getting smaller in the stands and no way to stop it uness organizations lay down stricter rules for some area's. But as with many, you will fight tooth and nail to to right and then see it change so quick. I personally can't keep up and would never feel right about doing it half way to any class. when patiance becomes art of the net again and it won't only will fans come to see and not stay home to get instant results. Why would you go and spend money when all results are on the net in minutes is my point of view and many others. Racers need fans, so do tracks.
The NMRA and NMCA / PRO are going to have an outstanding year as an organization, rules are effective in the classes and many can adapt plus run local venues. The east coast has some prime events coming to some very good tracks this year and they northern guys will hang tough to take a win for thier upper states.
Please understand that we meant no harm in sending the website into net oblivion, there's just too many smalller reasons that also killed the ideal we had.
Sincerely, NoRiceHere
RIP gDR 1998 - 2008

you just take care of yourself and your own, thats what comes first. It was a great site but just remember you work to live not live to work and when it starts to consume you it will affect your health and life at home. thats when you have to take a step back and take a look at what's most important. my hat goes off to you guys for doing what you do and doing it well. BRAVO.
