View Full Version : Matt Serra loses to St. Pierre........
Larry Geddes

VERY predictable.
Serra was very lucky when he won the last time. He is not in the same league as St. Pierre.
Rich Franklin won nicely also.
BTW....Where is Big John Mcarthy? I sure hope he hasn't left the organization.

Big John Retired
GSP is on his game now, would be cool to see him and Anderson Silva go at it. GSP would be mean with the added weight to fight Silva.
Mac Danzig looked awesome for his first big fight as well

I didn't know about our original referee!!
I did go to his website. He is doing a training facility.
Anyway...............
There is a TON of great up and coming guys out there.
BTW, May 31 LIVE MMA on CBS regular TV. Kimbo Slice and others on the card.
I want to know how they will deal with a real gusher of a cut or some "colorful" language as we sometimes see??

Very predictable indeed.
I don't know if this has been posted before or not, but if you guys have mised the fights, you can catch them on www.mmalinker.com, usually the next day.
You can also search by fighter, etc. Cool site for MMA fans.
The Quarry fight was rather upsetting. Anyone else yelling at Kalib to get his ass into the fight and stop running away?

I was to busy laughing at the running man... Nate was doin.!!! and good call on danzig... looks A LOT better after moving to Lightweight...

That Kalib character had no business being on the card. The only reason they signed him was because he is a Canadian, trying to please the locals. What a chump............

I liked Bisping's drop to 185. I think that could spice things up a little also. Kalib was a chump on the show when he quit when he "hurt" his rib. I think Lutter needs to be cut also. He gasses so easily. He's too out of shape at that weight class. I think it would be interesting to see Franklin drop to 170 for a few fights. He and St. Pierre would be a good fight.
Anywone following the show this season?

John Madden with his draw over screen to draw over the cut andthe CBS "Late Night with David Letterman" censors to bleep things? Telecast will be done on a 13 second delay?
Why is Dana White and other MMA people allowing the telecast of trash talk? There is a place that does that and it makes me want to mow em down with a 1.125" galvanized pipe to their mouths and it's called "Professional Wrestling".
Just keep it physical and not vocal. Enough noise in the world.
I don't need the vocal crap.
Larry Geddes
05-22-2008, 12:35 PM
Kane,
I agree on the trash/smack talk.....
I remember when St. Pierre talked a little trash after Matt Hughes won.(in the octagon)
It looked SOOO phony and scripted. Matt was uncomfortable even trying to listen and respond to it. I felt bad for Georges as he was uncomfortable saying what his boss had instructed him to say.
Look at the new fight coming....Mark Coleman vs. Brock Lesnar. Wait til we see how many WWE fans, etc that brings in. We will be shocked. (smart Dana)
Two world class wrestlers from college days. Two different careers. It will be fun. Coleman called Lesnar out a couple of fights back. (Columbus)
BTW, the term "ground and pound" came from Coleman's big days in the early UFC. They started using the term at his fights.
He was brutal with the headbutt when in the guard......
We must remember Dana has one thing in his mind and actions. Sales, sales,sales..............
Anyway.

Interesting fights this past weekend. Jardine just got rocked. I was glad to see Lyoto win, scared me at the end when Tito had the triangle. The Penn/Sherk fight was not what I expected, Penn just picked him apart and kept the distance with his reach.

Machida needed to stop walking backwards 80% of the time, Jardine was on crack to think he had a chance... and Sherk learned 3" matters....

I think Mach played the game perfectly. He outfought Tito. I do think Tito would have won if he wasn't chasing the guy so much
Lets not forget CBS this sat night 1st time on major network also during prime time!!
UFC isn't the only organization.
Affliction has the best card I've seen in years coming up in July
PS. Lar. if you have hdnet check out inside mma on friday nights. 1 hr long updates and fight videos from around the country and great guests on the show
Larry Geddes

No HDnet:mad:
UFC pays a $75,000 bonus for three fights. Best knockout, best submission, best overall fight.
Nice incentive, huh?
I can't remember who won what.
Tito wore a shirt at the weigh-in that said "Dana is my BIT**". Saw the picture on MMA Junkie.
I hope the CBS show is not a "bomb" this Saturday night. If it is, it could do damage to the sport.
Dana White told Gary Shaw (executive for this other group) that BJ Penn could beat Kimbo Slice. THAT comment has started a war between those two guys. I love it.
Is Dana right?

Hi Larry and others. Simple answer to your question bud... NOT A CHANCE IN THE WORLD LOL. Kimbo is a machine trained with the mentality and styles that cannot be taught in a gym. Not sayin that no one can get to him...just sayin it definitely wont be BJ.
I agree with you guys though...I hope this weekend isnt all hacked up and disgustingly riddled with ads etc.

Hey Larry,
Been a while. I watched two of Kimbo's fights. Can't remember the first guys name, but it seemed he went down pretty quick with what looked like a glancing blow. But Tank Abbot went right after him and got knocked out. I was glad to see him at least try. Kimbo is pretty tough. Do a search and you can find some of his street fights online. I know he rocked several! LOL

Yea but lets be honest Kimbo has not found anyone in the top 10 yet.
fighting steer fights on the net isn't a big deal. He got his butt kicked by
the one guy who is a cop. that guy went in the ufc and didn't last 1 round.
I agree with his Trainer Bas who is great and they need to condition him.
I think the main event should be Robby Lawler. He has put in the time and is also the Champ in his weight class.

So what did everyone think of the Lawler/Smith BS and the Kimbo fight? I think the Kimbo fight was stopped a little early.
Lawler/Smith was BS! Should have kept going.
Thought the other fights were pretty good though. :)

05-31-2008, 09:39 PM
I thought all the fights sucked! You can see why the ones that lost are UFC rejects. The Lawler/ Smith fight was the best one but a bs ending there! Kimbo proved a real fighter would easily crush him. He has zero ground game. His strength is his punching. I didn't have a problem with the stoppage. That guy was loopy and crosseyed! Also, what was up with that ear? That was nasty!!!
I did not like the WWE style format with the dancers and coming out to Busta Rhymes and all the music promotion. I think it cheapened the MMA experience overall.
Kool Rock Stead
06-01-2008, 05:03 AM
I agree with both last posts. James had kimbo against the fence and was still striking kimbo and ref says come on do something or I'll stand you up. That looked fishy. Also the Lawler fight was bs. I think the Gina fight was the best of the night.
It's obvious these fighters are not UFC type but I assure you if anyone saw the Frank Shamrock vs Kung Le they would see that either one of those guys would threaten and might beat Anderson Silva
Gotta give props to CBS and Elite XC for trying this though.
The dancers were stupid
SANDMAN
06-01-2008, 05:19 AM
Kimbo would get smoked vs a top 10 in any ufc class.
Look at how tired he got last night.
To think butterbean knocked thompson out in a ny minute.
Gina was the best fight. damn is she hot.
Larry Geddes
06-01-2008, 06:18 AM
Well......CBS tried.I didn't see the dancers, etc. (I think it ran over 45 minutes)
Due to a family commitment I didn't watch until the Lawler fight. Outstanding fight. I questioned the stoppage until I heard the comment from Smith,"I told the doctor that I couldn't see, just give me my 5 minutes". What a shame to stop it,but necessary.
The story of Kimbo is fun, but he doesn't have anything beyond brawling. He is similiar to our old boy Tank Abbott from the early days.
They said Kimbo received 6 figures for this fight. Good for him.
Dana White, (in a Press conference) said that BJ Penn could beat Kimbo. This REALLY ticked off Gary Shaw, the CEO of this group. Pretty funny comment I think. We could all put together a lengthy list of "coulds".
BTW, What was with the "floppy" cauliflower ear of Thompson? That is very unusual to go in without draining it. It was drained alright.....
The big question is........did this show hurt or help MMA?
Sunday night(tonight) on Versus we can watch Uriah Faber fight Jens Pulver for their title. Should be good. Faber is very good. Pulver is very experienced.
Larry Geddes
06-01-2008, 07:21 AM
The bloggers are ranting this:
Was the ear allowed as a way to break it open and stop the fight? (Kimbo can't lose this fight!) Fix? Hard to believe a doctor would have let him go in with that "dangling floppy"ear, don't you think?
Standups too premature?
Kimbo was NOT answering the elbows .
In the second round, did Kimbo tap? JT had him in a guillotine. (I saw him touch JT's knee twice quickly and the announcer said,"Kimbo said he 's OK) I don't have a tape to review. I wish someone would. Fishy?

Kimbo better stick to cans like Thompson. He's got NOTHING for any of the elite MMA fighters at his weight class. I can think of several at the lower weights he don't want any of either.
I don't think CBS did MMA any favors with the WWE format. The UFC doesn't have anything to worry about, Dana probably laughed his a$$ off if he even bothered watching. The WEC puts on good shows and I wouldn't expect anything different tonight. I think Faber will most likely own Jens. Jens may be a little past his prime for someone as strong and fast as Faber. We'll see.

i too think the WWE format hurt the show. as for the kimbo fight, he would have knocked him out shortly had it not been stopped. remember, this was only his third mma fight,im sure he will only get better,as will Brock Lesnar. i dont think Dana and the boys have much to worry about just yet. cant wait for the Faber fight, its gonna b awesome!!! next week,Marcus Davis!! this guy is bad, just bought a gym localy from an aquaintance of mine who use to train with the Gracies

Man was the Farber v. Pulver badass or what!?! That was one of the best fights I have seen in a long time. Pulver took some massive shots, and Farber took a few hits as well but Farber's cardio is just crazy. That was awesome, and it was free!

BTW, Uriah Faber is great fighter. Very impressive. I thought Pulver's experience might prevail, but it didn't.
I think Jens was "clockwatching" 3rd round on. He acted as if he knew he couldn't do anything with Faber and just wanted the fight to end.

I think he'll move up one of these days. It'll be interesting to see what happens when he does. He was just way faster than Jens last night. I thought Jens fought a really good fight, especially considering the difference in hand speed. It was good to see someone take Faber deep into a fight for a change.
