what people kinda forget sometimes is that the stronger the block is and the less flex it has the better it is on the whole rotating assembly

Are you asking whether a girdle or 4 bolt caps are stronger still using a using a stock block?

yes I have a old block and was thinking haveing it drilled and tapped so I could use 4 bolt but I just put my girdle back on it for now and am going to a new block next year.

waste of time and money splaying a two bolt block to go 4 bolt on a 302 block. 4 bolt splaying will not make a difference in block strength. the 302 block splits down the middle. i would not even 4 bolt splay a 351W block.

I have a 86 351w nascar block out of the old windsor foundry the are much much bigger in the main webs than even the 69 blocks but they are only 2 bolt so I am going to use splayed caps on it, thats my question for this year I was only going to girdle it because my engine builder is swamped and cant do it for a while, so I thought I would just girdle it and pull it out during the winter but I am going to use my current motor and do it right over the winter instead of doing things twice!

the only thing a girdle is good for is to hold the block in one piece so you can get it home on the trailer after it splits down the middle like a tortilla.

x2.....lol that scenerio is what happened to me years ago......split the block in half with a main support on a stock 8.2 deck block...broke the crank into .....bent all the rods...broke the cam into....pistons smacked 4 valves........needless to say the motor was junk except the heads and intake.....

thats preety much exactly what happened to me. except i got luckier than you my heads were unharmed but did bend 2 rods. the funniest thing was taking it apart. i didnt pull the pistons from the block i pulled the block from the pistons lol
