There may have been no 8 second passes on Saturday but there were several on Sunday during the Shootout. I won the semi-finals match against a 8.951@156.68 by Blair Brannock and lost in the finals against a 8.907@156.68 by Escobar. I think there were a few more 8's during the shootout by Blair and Escobar, but I did not witness these. If I'm not mistaken, there were more cars averaging 9 seconds in this year's competition than last year. Weather was hot, at least in the mid-80's so running a good time was challenging. I know that Blair's car has run 8's several times before the official competition on Saturday and is probably capable of mid-8's when he has the chance to get the car dialed in.
What was amazing was that there were 107 cars entered and approximately 70 of them finished the cruise and all three runs. All of the competitors' were friendly and NMRA ran it all the way through without any real problems that I am aware of. Bottom line it was a lot of fun and very interesting.

Sounds like fun! My question was how did everyone follow each other on the curise? Police escort is only at the front right?

Thanks Brian. Sorry you couldn't make it, your car certainly would have been in the thick of things. I will try and call you later.

I never saw the police escort. The cruise was a little crazy. I expected a leisurely drive through the back roads with everyone packed together. But once the convoy hit the highway, you had to drive fast to keep up. Regular traffic mingled with us though I'm sure they were unaware of what was going on. At the end of the cruise, it wouldn't surprise me if the the convoy was stretched over 3 miles or so. If you ever do it, make sure you get the map they have showing the route so you don't get lost if you fall behind.

There was an unmarked cruiser at the front of the line.

It was deffinately a Blast!!
You Turbos guys are really running strong, lot of MPH out of your combo's.
I think my car is under geared as I was hoping for some 8's also this weekend but it would hit a brick wall at 1000ft or so, only picking up 27mph on the back half.
Still was fun, Chris got me in the second round, I gave it my all, a 9.16 @ 147 with a nasty 1.32 sixty foot. Not bad for a nitrous car with no timers.
Had fun, and it was a great talking with everyone.

The fast cars are always somewhere else. IMHO what counts are the ones that show up to an event and compete. Making a one time hero pass at some track somewhere is okay, but consistantly making fast passes and doing it during official competition will always mean more. I've got 28 times slips from passes I made in the last two weeks at both a local track and at Bradenton. I drove the car to each event including Bradenton which is 120 miles away. I made the roundtrip drive twice this weekend. I don't even own a trailer so driving it to the tracks is my only option. My car is only a "fast mule" and not set to "kill". On Sunday in Bradenton I had 5 passes that were al in the 9.20's. I wasn't the fastest car there but it is quiet as a whisper, has full interior and the stock hood.

It was just a joke. I actually would have liked to come down to compete in this, but my car isnt quite ready yet. I know all about how it works and that you cant be a one hit wonder. I raced in Truestreet NMRA/NMCA before.

Wish I could of given you a run instead of a red light :). I didn't have anything for your low 9 sec ride even I had went green tho. I'm just glad I made it to the event, qualifying for the shootout was the icing on the cake. I use to run SBSO and was always at least 1 second behind the bump spot. I finally did it and qualified :).
I just need to do some tweaking and see if I can get at least some mid 9s outta mine now. We just put the engine back in and re-wired the whole car in the past week before the event. We got done Friday night and dyno'd it. Got off the dyno @ 11:30 pm, loaded up the car and headed to Bradenton. Rolled into the track @ 5:50 am.
The car was way hot on the back to back passes (and cruise). So I know that wasn't help'n it's performance (though a 9.91@141 isn't bad for a 3560# tank). Gotta figure out the AOD transbrake. It's a basic rebuild AOD with a few upgrades, PA Manual T-brake valve body and PI Stallion Lockup converter. I've had the brake on the car since 2002 but only tried it once before when I had a S-trim on the car. With the turbo I was building boost on the brakes then hit the T-brake. When I did it still rolled the car from the Pre-stage bulb to all the way out of the beams . Oh well, there's always next year .

Oh, I didn't take it too seriously. I can see from the information in your signature that you have competed and done quite well. Sorry you didn't make it, it was a lot of fun. Fast cars are like the proverbial fast draw cowboys - truth is there is always someone faster out there somewhere. I wrote what I wrote primarily because there are a hundred guys who have never competed in anything that will get on this forum and think "gee, my car has run that fast" or worse, "my buddies car has run faster" - LOL. I have a lot more respect for guys that showed up and finished all of the races (even if they weren't the fastest) than the would of, could of and only if this mentality. Heck, anyone that took at least the time and effort to show up and try is better than anyone that talks smack but wasn't there competing. This applies to any of the events, not just Bradenton.

I was the one who raced Blair (Brannock) in the semi's. We were both right there at the staging lights and I turned on the pre-stage light first. While waiting for him to pre-stage, I started to bring up my rpm's somewhat while I was still pre-staged, normal for a turbo car. I was holding the car in place with my brakes but the car rolled on me enough to turn on the staged light. At this point I looked at the starter to see if he wanted me to back out and pre-stage again. I watched and he gave me no signal. My experience has been that unless the starter gives you a signal, you should never back out of the lights once staged. I watched the starter for a signal until Blair pre-staged. When Blair did pre-stage, I set my transbrake and got ready for the light. When Brannock finally staged, the starter may have thrown the switch quick - I don't know because time slows down at the starting line waiting for the light. Brannock had a bad light, I had a good one and won.
This all happened during the heat of battle. I met Blair for the first time this weekend and he is nice guy with a cool car. After it was all over I apologized for the what happened during the staging sequence and he seemed to understand and acted like a complete gentleman. I race the car a lot, though not at that many competition events against a pro-tree as is the case with many of the true street competitors. At no time do I ever try to play games with anyone during staging. Usually all I care about is staging myself correctly and not accidently rolling throught the beams and redlighting. In this case, I accidently rolled into the staged light. I would like to make it clear that I did not quickly just roll in through the pre-stage light and stage the car. Everything happened slowly and deliberately. With that said, I agree that Blair may have gotten a bum deal. I think the starter should have seen what happened and either backed me out or waited a little longer to throw the light. Things do happen during normal racing that aren't necessarily fair.

Agreed the starter should have rolled you out. Thanks for the explanation. Will we see you at the NMCA race ar BMP?

I am planning on going at this point but things may happen to prevent it. Such as a girlfriend getting upset over time spent working on the car and racing. I've got most things figured out on making the car run, but haven't figured out how to get her let me take the time to do all of the things I need to do as quickly as I need to do them. Men may win most races, but women win most arguments.
