Re: Good job Lou Proto!!!

thanks guys, has been a long time since we ran well and it really feels good! its a shame i didn't have a time machine to go back a few years because its the exact same combo i had for 3 years now just taken us this long to figure things out a little, and to end off the weekend great the car is as healthy as ever and drove back into the trailer to fight another day! don't know for sure yet if we'll be making anymore nmra events this year but will most definately be testing some more locally. i think some people are gonna be really shocked when they see what we can really run , including myself when we put a little more aggressive tune in her! just wish i could have been at this point 2 years ago!

Lou, I know what you mean about the amount of time it takes to get a handle on the things. Great job on getting it done this weekend. I was on the line and watched you make passes up close, impressive!. Hope to see you at more events.

I have followed SSO for a couple years now and Lou's car is one of my favorite being its a foxbody vert. You tend to notice these things. Just curious is all...

Re: Good job Lou Proto!!!

had some fun at outlaws at atco this past weekend car was making great power all weekend just couldn't hook her up out of the gate ran 175mph on one pass though, still sneaking up on tune up. was testing some new hoosier 28x10.5's with mixed results. we new we weren't gonna be compettitive at this event just wanted to test and have some fun and be part of the show, in which we did, sometimes i'd rather be lucky than good ! bill glidden got dque'd not making weight at the scales, so we slid in for the last qualified position and was guaranteed $200 just for qualifying. it ended up being a 24 car field and along the way we took out the #1 qualifier in round 1 and won another $300 bucks just for going one round. then in the second round we got a little to aggressive with tune up and we spun the tires was too bad cause i had 3 tenths on him off the tree! i attached video from godragracing.com. for all to enjoy!

bill, its been a while since i did this but i believe we narrowed rear about 4 inches on each side and run a 4 inch backspace wheel ( common size) available anywhere. you don't want to get into custom sized wheels because if you should damage one then your screwed, if i damage one of mine i can just call my local speed shop or jegs or summit and order a new one with no issues or down time. thanks for the compliment!

Re: Good job Lou Proto!!!

I agree nice article in race pages. I was wondering how you lightened up the car so much. i to run a 1990 convertible and was wondering how you did it? Glass nose, fenders, doors? Was the 27oo lbs with you in it? I run small block with procharger 3390 with driver. Fiberglass hood, gutted interior, AJE K-members and arms. I was hoping you could share any info on how I could lighten her up.

Thanks
Vinny

PS I read that you are probably going to build another car - current one is pretty bad ass!!

vinny thanks for compliment , as for my car it is 2700lbs with me in it and i usually weigh between 200 & 220 lbs depending on my diet that particular month lol. it is all steel as per rules less front bumper cover and hood and trunk and rear bumper cover. front bumper cover and hood are carbon fiber though. i could wright a book as to how to take weight out of a vert not an easy task, but if your ever at an nmra event in which we are at, feel free to stop by and take a look and see for yourself be glad to answer any questions that you may have, and good luck with your vert.

lol!!! all i can say at this point is, we are taking some drastic measures to run at the top of the class! there will most definately be some major changes going on in 07 for us i like surprising people, not sure if my surprise will be ready in time for florida though but everybody will just have to wait and see.

Hey Lou,

I am currently building a 90 Saleen Convertible and was wondering what mods, if any, you made to the top to keep it from balooning on the top end. Everyone is telling me that the top is going to act like a parachute at speeds over 130...

I am trying to run 8.80's and I have to weigh 3200lbs

I dont know what Lou does for that but i had to sew mine to the ribs with nylon thread running across.they use glue fron the factory and it doesnt hold and u get the bubble effect.
