For the first time ever, the NMRA and NMCA ventured into the Carolinas to hit the brand-new zMAX Dragway on the grounds of the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. ProCharger’s Super Street Outlaw class had five competitors in the lanes at the beginning of the lanes, led by John Urist, who had qualified number one with a 7.406 nearly 195mph. During eliminations, Urist had his first-round bye before losing to Don Burton in the semifinal on a heartbreaking -.018 redlight, sending Burton to the final round. On the other side of the ladder, John Macdonald ran a 7.54 to send Chris Tuten home. Macdonald took the second round bye into the final, where he faced off against Burton. In a final round where both racers faced problems, Macdonald had the least, crossing the traps with a 10.41 to Burton’s 18.13, earning his own very first win in the NMRA.
