NMRA SERIES 2008 RULES

General Description

Super Stang is designed for any S197 body vehicles using a Ford modular OEM 4.6 or 5.4 V-8 (3v or 4v) and V-6 engines only ('05 and later Mustangs are referred to as S197 cars).  The Super Stang class will be contested on an Index based format. 

Event Dates:
Super Stang will run at 4 events in '08 –
June 13-15 at  Milan Dragway in Milan MI.
August 8-10 at Atco Raceway in Atco,NJ.
August 29-31at National Trail in Columbus, OH.
October 2-5 at Beach Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, KY. 

Class Description:
Super Stang is designed for any S197 body vehicles using a Ford modular OEM 4.6 or 5.4 V-8 (3v or 4v) and V-6 engines only ('05 and later Mustangs are referred to as S197 cars).  Super Stang is based on a dial your own elapsed time (E.T.)  which you must choose prior to the first round of eliminations .  Once  first round of eliminations have run changing your dial –in or personal index is prohibited.  In first round of eliminations, the closer you run to you’re your dial-in or personal index, the higher you will qualify for second round eliminations, which will then be laddered on a NHRA Sportsman ladder.  All runs made faster than your dial-in or personal index will be placed on the bottom of the ladder. 

Class Designation:
Super Stang will have a class designation of “SST” and permanent numbers will begin with 12001.  Competitors may secure permanent numbers by calling 714-444-2426 or at the NMRA registration trailer at each event.  Super Stang competitors are required to be official NMRA members. 

CLASS INFORMATION, LADDER TYPE, & TREE

The class will be an all run class with vehicles randomly paired in the first round.   In the second round vehicles will be qualified by positive elapsed time (et) closest to the drivers claimed dial-in or personal index.  Any negative (et) or qualifying run made faster than the drivers dial-in or personal index will be placed at the bottom of the qualifying ladder, the more negative or faster the (et), the farther down the ladder the run will be placed. For cases in which identical elapsed time packages are made, qualifying position will be based on a first-come first served: the first occuring (et) package will be placed #1, the second occurance of said (et) packages will be placed #2, and so on. Class will be laddered according to qualifying positions following the first round, and then advance thru eliminations. Once a dial-in or personal index is claimed in first round it will not be allowed to change for the remainder of the event.

All Run, NHRA Sportsman Ladder, Pro .500 Tree, Handicap Start.

If weather or any other unordinary occurrence effects eliminations the Competition Director reserves the right to allow dial-in or personal index changes between rounds.

RULES & REGULATIONS

S197 body vehicles only with OEM type 4.6 or 5.4 (3v or 4v) and V-6 engines only. RENTAL CARS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
Any modifications, or power adders permitted.  Any gear change must occur as a result of an internal function of the transmission or from direct action by the driver. Pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, etc. shifters prohibited. Trans-brakes and 2-steps prohibited. This is a Foot Break Only. 3400 lbs. Minimum weight

WHEELS & TIRES

WHEELS: DOT tires and wheels required. Spindle-mount front wheels and Drag Slicks are prohibited. Tires must fit inside stock, unaltered rear wheel wells.  Inner fender lip may be rolled to protect rear tire sidewalls but not trimmed or removed.

RACING AIDS

Delay boxes, cross-over boxes, or any “reaction-time related” electronic bracket racing aids prohibited in this class. Throttle stops, Stutter boxes, and all related throttle-stop type accessories and trans brakes are prohibited; this is a foot brake only class.  Controller devises for nitrous systems only, are permitted.

INTERIOR

Full interior required, dash, console and carpet.  Two front seats required, may be exchanged for lightweight aftermarket seats.  Rear seats may be removed if done in accordance to rules with the trunk and fuel tank fully covered. Floor and tunnel where visible must be upholstered or carpeted. Headliner required.

BODY

Windshield/Windows

OEM safety glass required for all windows.

MUFFLERS

Commercially available mufflers (generally available through retail locations) required and must exit within 12” of the rear end centerline housing.

DRIVE TRAIN

Transmissions

Only specific OEM Ford transmissions permitted. Non-Ford transmissions prohibited.

Drive shaft

Drive shaft required to be only steel or aluminum.  Single piece drive shafts permitted.
Rear End
Any type of automotive rear end permitted.  Any rear axle housing permitted.

SUSPENSION
OEM or aftermarket suspension system required.  Tubular aftermarket K member permitted, but must attach to the chassis using only the factory OEM type mounting bolts in the factory mounting locations.  OEM rear attachment points must be maintained.  Upper and lower trailing arms may be modified, changed or strengthened per approval of the technical department.  Solid mounted suspension prohibited. Aftermarket struts, shocks, A-arms or springs permitted.  Coil-over front struts permitted. Coil-over rear suspension prohibited.

FRAME

Unmodified, stock, unaltered OEM frame rails required.  Sub frame connectors permitted.

LANE CHOICE

During qualifying and eliminations, it is the responsibility of the competitors to determine lane choice. If the competitors are unable to establish lane choice, a staging official will make the determination in the manner he/she chooses (i.e., coin flip, random choice, faster car, etc.)

DEEP STAGING

Deep staging is permitted, however not advocated.  If you plan to deep stage, it is strongly recommended that you boldly display the words DEEP on all four windows, in plain view of the starter.  It is always the driver’s responsibility to stage the vehicle prior to the tree being activated.  In any event, the driver must be prepared to leave as soon as the final stage light is lit.

A competitor with the words DEEP displayed on the window is not necessarily obligated to deep stage.  As well, the starter is not necessarily obligated to wait on a driver to deep stage, even if the words DEEP are displayed on the vehicle. All drivers must be prepared to leave as soon as the final stage light is lit.

ADVERTISING

GRAPHICS: Graphics (for advertising or creative purposes) permitted on entire body, including doors, hood, rear quarter panels, front fenders, wing, etc.

CONTINGENCY

CONTINGENCY DECALS: in order to be eligible for NMRA official contingency program, all contingency decals are required to appear only on the rear quarter windows or rear window in a clear and organized fashion. Contingency decals may not be overlapped or modified. Other decals and sponsorship (non-contingency) may appear on bodywork, front end, and on windows.

NMRA REQUIRED DECALS: The following decals are required for competition in NMRA events.

• NMRA Windshield Decal – must be installed on top of windshield. This NMRA decal must be the only decal on top of windshield. Other vehicle sponsor decals may be placed at base of windshield.

• NMRA 2008 Drag Racing Series “Side” Decals – must be installed on each side of vehicle on quarter windows.

• Class Sponsor Decal – class sponsor decal must be installed on base of windshield on the passenger side.

• Permanent Numbers – permanent numbers are required for competition in this class. Must be on front, rear, and both side windows.

CLASS & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

It is the participant’s responsibility to familiarize oneself with the class requirements as found in the 2008 NMRA rulebook and the safety requirements as found in the 2008 NHRA rulebook.
The participant agrees that the participant bears the ultimate responsibility at all times to ensure the safety of participant’s vehicle and to ensure that participant complies with all applicable NHRA & NMRA rules. The participant agrees that participant is in the best position to know about the construction and operation of participant’s vehicle, equipment, and clothing, and whether there has been compliance with all applicable NHRA & NMRA rules.
