With a new UPR Products suspension out back, his ARP Open Comp racer goes straight down the track rather than giving him a look at the stands.
David DeStefano is a Mustang guy through and through. This year he brought out this bright-blue classic. With a new engine and a new converter, this ARP Open Comp racer is good for low nines at over 140 mph. DeStefano built the Chris Alston Chassisworks chassis himself and powered it with the aforementioned 9.2-deck SVO block topped by Trick Flow High Port heads that squeezes out a 14.5:1 compression and revving to 8,000 rpm. He likes making the trip down to the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center All-Star Nationals because his fellow racers are so friendly.
David Swain's 1969 Mustang has a lot of drag passes on it. Built to resemble an early 80s Super Stocker, it is powered by a 427 FE topped by Edelbrock cylinder head. Backed by a C4 auto with a 5,000-rpm stall converter, this ARP Open Comp machine runs high 10s.
A regular in ARP Open Comp, Barry Poff's 1991 Mustang gets down with a 571ci big-block Ford backed by a Coan Engineering-prepped Powerglide automatic and 4.57-geared 9-inch rear fitted with Strange axles and gears. He's been running with NMRA for five years.
Between NMRA races, Mr. Open Comp, Larry Geddes put a test day in Cincinnati, Ohio, to good use by winning a United Manual Transmissions Racers stick-shift race on May 30. He hopes to carry that momentum to success in the ARP Open Comp class at the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center All-Star Nationals with his tried and true combo.
Rodney Ward is wicked behind the wheel of his 1965 Mustang in NMRA ARP Open Comp, but because it's undergoing some upgrades, he's in his Fusion Sport for Fastest Street Car Ford Muscle and QA1 True Street competition at the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals, this weekend at Atlanta Dragway. Ward runs to 14s in the car, which has 220,000 miles on its odometer and also serves as an Uber, and at some point this weekend, his wife, Kay Ward, might end up in the lane next to him, as she's also racing in Fastest Street Car Ford Muscle and QA1 True Street in her Mustang. Here to keep them in check is their granddaughter, Alivia. 
While Danny Towe used to compete in the NMCA's Detroit TrueTrac Nostalgia Muscle Car category, he moved over to the NMRA's Fastest Street Car Ford Muscle category a few years ago. It's a fine fit, as he earned a championship in 2016, and while it would be understandable if he felt pressure to back it up, he doesn't. Now that I have earned a championship, my approach is to just have fun, and it's working, because I really am just having a lot of fun, said Towe, whose Mustang is motivated by a 351 cubic-inch Ford engine and is dialed in for high 11s. This category, with its sportsman tree, footbraking and indexes, is a good fit for me and my car. 
The legendary Hi-Po Joe Joe Charles is on the property to support his fellow NMRA brethren! Charles was spotted walking the NMRA G-Force Racing Transmissions Coyote Stock pits, hanging out with the class where he himself earned a championship. 
Hometown hero Gary Hollywood Parker of NMRA Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle fame has some new sponsors on board this year, Attitude Street Cars and Lithia Springs Ford, in addition to his usual team such as Exedy Racing Clutches, Team Z Motorsports, Fuelab, and RC Components. 
Attitude Street Cars of Marietta, Georgia, is displaying this weekend at Atlanta Dragway on the manufacturer's midway, and their vendor booth has got a pretty wicked ride on display. The 48 Ford F-1 6-speed manual pickup truck has been swapped over to house a complete drivetrain and suspension from an 03-04 Ford Mustang Cobra Terminator, including the SVT supercharger. 
Walter Baranowski is running with his current Coyote setup this weekend in NMRA G-Force Racing Transmissions Coyote Stock, but he's looking ahead to the future. Baranowski has found a buyer for his engine, and will make the decision of when exactly to pull it out in favor of a new Gen 3 unit once this weekend wraps up. A new oil accumulator and some O2 sensors will, in the meantime, hopefully help him pick up performance in the interim. 
With multi-time NMRA and NMCA champion Brandon Alsept leading the way on behalf of BA Motorsports, NMRA JDM Engineering Limited Street driver Larry Starost is quickly getting a handle on his Green Bean Mustang's new ProCharged setup. Alsept made some changes just after the Bradenton season opener in Florida to hopefully find some ET and now he's working through data collection in preparation for throwing down some good passes this weekend. 
The Hellion B Team was hard at work this morning changing out the torque converter in their War Eagle Edelbrock Renegade Mustang to hopefully be prepared for the track surface conditions this weekend. Dwayne James wanted to loosen the torque converter a bit to ensure some traction, but a loose transmission line combined with the fan that was meant to keep them cool during the process ensured anything but traction in Mike Ciborowski's trailer where the swap was going down. The trans was reinstalled without issue, however, a thorough cleanup was in order, with Haley James making sure her Dad wasn't going to slip and fall. 
Racers know all about traction, and they understand it applies to both on- and off-track situations. As Limited Street racer Sondra Leslie's crew was backing her out of the pit, their golf cart found a slick patch of mud and grass, but the team quickly jumped into action by adding a bunch of ballast to the back end to get them out of the hole quickly and improve the mud-to-pavement elapsed time. 
Becki and Joe Cram had planned to run in the NMRA Limited Street category this year, but have since made the leap into Edelbrock Renegade with their Cobra Jet clone Mustang. The du worked out some throttle body issues with a rigid throttle linkage and the car will undergo chassis work after this race to update the roll cage. Becki will be getting used to a far better power-to-weight ratio with this new combination this weekend, and then a bunch of change will happen before the next race in St. Louis in a month's time. 
Donato Sierchio had a very successful weekend at the NMRA Spring Break Shootout, winning that heads-up class as well as the BMP Street Car Shootout. The True Street racer clicked off an easy 7.92 this morning in testing, lifting early, but plans to turn it up for the True Street competition to ensure another win. His ultimate goal is to be the first True Street car in the 6s, and if his notchback doesn't get the job done, the S550 Mustang that he is building next should. 
Charles Hull is competing in the NMRA's VP Madditives Street Outlaw class at Atlanta Dragway this weekend and the 2019 X275 champion is showing he's the one to beat here with a pair of untouchable 4.42s in testing so far from his KBX/Bennett Racing Mustang. 
Joel Greathouse is chasing an NMRA championship in 2020 in the Edelbrock Renegade category with his bright red KBX Performance-powered Mustang. The team opted to change a head gasket on the little 311ci small-block Ford engine after a leak down test indicated the beginning of a failure. Greathouse and KBX's Justin McChesney were also inspecting the hot side manifold for a possible exhaust leak as well. 
On the property repping Laris Motorsports and competing in Richmond Gear Factory Stock, Mark Anderson has 36 insurance customers at the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals, including Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle racer Adam Cox. Only a day and a half into the event he add already give 28 quotes to other racers looking for insurance for their programs. On the car front, his 4.6-powered Fox is taking a Two-Valve knife to a Coyote gunfight in Factory Stock. He just upgraded the car with a Rick Anderson tune, larger headers, and a fresh Bullet cam grind spec'd out by Todd Warren.
At first glance you might assume that Rick Baum's 2000 Mustang GT was just another Modular Mustang. Upon further review, however, his is powered by a swapped GT500 engine. He bought the engine after it sat for 10 years without making it into the previous owner's project. After installing it a topping it with a 4.5-liter Whipple twin-screw blower and controlling it with Holley EFI, the stock-bottom-end 5.4-liter puts out well over 700 horsepower at the wheels and delivers low-9-second elapsed time in QA1 True Street competition.
If you had a stock-drivetrain 1998 Mustang GT with over 250,000 miles on the clock, would you strap a nitrous kit on and run two classes That's just what Jerry and Cindy Jones are doing this weekend. Entered in both Fastest Street Car Ford Muscle and QA1 True Street, the car sports a tune, a UPR suspension, some Steeda bits, and is supported by Attitude Street Cars. He says he runs this car to show that it's not expensive to go drag racing.
