With the completion of the Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Force Engineering, another name was added to the ladder for the 2020 GForce Performance Engineering King of the Street eliminator, which is set to take place during the Nitto Tire NMRA World Ford Finals and Holley Intergalactic Ford Festival at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on October 2-4. Rick Baum topped the QA1 True Street sheet at the end of the weekend, and it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Baum is a True Street veteran with multiple wins, and at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, he clocked a 9.46, a quicker 9.20, and a quicker still 9.02 to blast to the overall win with a three-run average of 9.23 in his Mustang. Baum's 2000 new-edge Mustang received a rather large injection of horsepower and torque by way of a 5.4-liter GT500 engine swap. He didn't leave it stock, of course, and topped it with a 4.5-liter Whipple twin-screw blower. Baum turned to Holley EFI for the engine management, and when the final calibration was complete, the upgraded Shelby powerplant produced well over 700 horsepower at the wheels. The GForce Performance Engineering King Of The Street (KOTS) class is a heads-up eliminator that consists of the overall True Street winners from each NMRA event, as well as the Spring Break Shootout winner. The first two entrants came from the NMRA season opener in Bradenton, with Donato Sierchio and 2019 KOTS runner up Mike Jovanis putting the rest of the class contenders on notice with mid-7-second elapsed times. At the next race in Georgia, it was Hot Rod Drag week racer and True Street competitor Alex Corella claiming the next open spot with his 8-second capable Fox-Body Mustang. Paducah, Kentucky's Randy Thomas took the overall QA1 True Street win at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway during the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing in August of this year to collect the fourth ticket to the KOTS eliminator in Bowling Green. With Baum taking the fifth spot, that leaves three more up for grabs, and those will be filled during the Nitto Tire NMRA World Ford Finals in Bowling Green after the QA1 True Street class has been run to completion. The overall winner, runner up, and third quickest car will fill the final three spots, and if history is any indication, the NMRA Finals is never short of super quick street cars, especially in True Street. The GForce Performance Engineering King of the Street showdown happens on Saturday of the NMRA World Finals, which is the biggest Mustang motorsports event of the year. The King of the Street winner will walk away with $2,500, other special prizes, a prestigious Victor award, and a celebration in the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle.
