2020+ GT500s Battle For Shelby Supremacy At NMRA Ford Homecoming

As NMRA celebrates its 25th Anniversary season, the 3rd Annual Mickey Thompson NMRA Ford Homecoming will delight Ford fans with several special features. Presented by TREMEC, Coastal Dyno, ZPE Griptec, Beefcake Racing & Palm Beach Dyno, the 2020+ GT500 Shootout pits the factory’s most muscle machines against one another in a battle for bragging rights at Summit Motorsports Park from June 8-11.

Ford’s most powerful Mustang to date, the 760-horsepower 2020-2022 Shelby GT500 is a dream machine for Ford fans. These muscle machines can click off 10-second elapsed times right off the dealer lot and easily dip into the single digits with bolt-on modifications. The Predator-powered GT500s are capable of producing huge power, blasting down the drag strip, and making the drive home with all the creature comforts.

“Ford Performance really knocked it out of the park with the latest Shelby GT500s, and seeing these amazing production muscle cars compete on the quarter mile is a sight to behold,” Steve Wolcott, President and CEO of NMRA, said. “This class was a big hit at our season opener, so we just had to add it to the roster of special categories at our Ford Homecoming, which serves as the celebratory stop on our silver-anniversary NMRA tour.”

With backing from leaders in the GT500 community — including TREMEC, Coastal Dyno, Palm Beach Dyno, Beefcake Racing & ZPE Griptec — the 2020+ GT500 Shootout will encompass both street-driven and all-out competition machines with the GT500 Street and GT500 Unlimited categories. Both classes are all-run, quarter-mile competitions with the Street class competing with a 10.0 Index, while the Unlimited class runs on a 9.0 Index.

NMRA will present $2,750 and a custom NMRA award, while the runner-up will receive $750 and a plaque in both the Street and Unlimited categories, but racers can only compete in one of the two 2020+ GT500 Shootout classes. In addition, the four quickest racers will come back Sunday for a Heads-Up Shootout!

The classes are open to any VIN-verified 2020 through 2022 Shelby GT500. The NHRA safety rules are in effect and allow vehicles with fully functioning factory safety equipment and proper driver equipment. Aftermarket roll bars will infringe on the operation of factory safety systems and competitors should contact the NMRA Tech department at [email protected] with any questions about the safety requirements for their vehicles.

Along with the 2020+ GT500 Shootout, the NMRA Ford Homecoming will host an awesome Maximum Motorsports All-Ford Autocross and the huge UPR Products Car Show. Additionally, NMRA will host a range of events within the event, including the Anderson Composites Off-Road Alley, the Edelbrock NMRA Founders Reunion, the Harland Sharp Fox-Body Reunion powered by Foxy Events, the TascaParts.com Cobra Jet Reunion, the SVTPerformance.com SVT 30th Anniversary Reunion, and the 40thAnniversary Saleen Reunion.
