UPR Products' Bill Putnam, who won the inaugural Livernois Motorsports EcoBoost Battle at the 2015 NMRA World Finals, is sitting on top of the ladder this race. He ran 11.17 at 121 mph and according to some who will not be named Sharad Raldiris that is the quickest "stock turbo/stock engine" combination to date with that engine platform in a Mustang. There are five 11-second EcoBoost cars with a sixth, a 2015 Focus ST, that is on the cusp of breaking into the 11s.
The talk amongst the top cars in the VMP Performance Terminator vs. GT500 Shootout prior to this weekend was about the outlaw style builds going on right now. But Brian Devilbiss came out in tradition class trim as he exited Edelbrock Renegade and went back to the shootout with a larger Precision Pro Mod 94mm turbocharger and a set of Mickey Thompson ET Radials out back. He ran a career best of 7.52 at 184 mph to go to the top of qualifying.
First-time True Street competitor Grant Guise brought his 1988 Mustang notchback up form Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to compete this weekend. His brother Russell (pictured) helps out with the Fox body, and the siblings are still creeping up on this new combination. Rescued out of field and held in storage for some time, the Mustang needed significant rust repair before the Guises were able to drop in the 427ci engine with a 150-shot of nitrous oxide. Backed by a Powerglide transmission, the Windsor muscle maker has propelled the coupe to 9.0s at 147. Next up is a little more timing and hopefully 8-second ETs.
The swap meet vendors were already setting up on Thursday and there were some real rare finds to be had. We spotted these vintage OZ Monte Carlo wheels replete with all center caps for a bargain of $400.

Brett Stabler (right) and Chris Jones (Left) have put together one killer combination for the Fluid Turbo Concepts Turbo Coyote Shootout. Stabler's 2011 California Special now features a built Coyote engine with a Hellion twin-turbo kit that made 1,100 hp on the chassis dyno. That was with 17 psi of boost joining the E85 fuel. Now at 20 psi, the Mustang charged to a 7.88 at 181 yesterday in testing.
The car show is nearly filled up already, and every car is looking super clean. There's everything from 60s muscle cars to late-model diesel trucks in the mix.
Race Pages Coyote Stock driver Mike Washington is currently sitting number one after the first round of qualifying with a 10.25. Today has brought slightly cooler air, and after looking at the data from the first qualifying run, Washington feels there is a .19 in it. That said, the top three cars are separated by hundredths of a second currently, so there could be more than one record-setting lap by more than one driver.
Brad Gusler let the field know that he can run 10s in NMRA competition and dropped in with a 10.98 at 127 mph. He is the provisional number-one qualifier through two rounds of qualifying with the third hit coming later this afternoon.
Discovery Channel's Street Outlaw star Chris "BoostedGT" Hamilton rolled into the gates this morning with his famed street race car. He is hanging out all day long, signing autographs, and will be racing tonight in NMRA Grudge Night.
The "Modfather" Ronnie Diaz arrived today ready to take on the Street Outlaw contingent with his Modular-powered SN95 Mustang. Diaz had Bennet Racing build him a new 5.8-liter Four-Valve bullet for this season and will be looking to get a handle on it today throughout qualifying.
Ready to square off against Diaz is Phil Hines. Hines swapped out his factory power-window-equipped doors for lightweight carbon fiber versions, and also changed out the front and rear glass for composite glass. Hines told us that the doors alone saved him 120 lbs and he feels he's about 175 lbs lighter overall weight that he needs to have but can now move around on the car to improve traction. Next on his list is a carbon fiber one-piece front clip.
James Meredith is sitting in the number-one spot after two rounds of qualifying. Yesterday, he had posted a 10.625 in American Racing Headers Factory Stock, which as of round two is the time to beat. Meredith attributes much of the improved performance to the rules changes in the off season that allowed Coyote-powered entries to move from a 1 5/8-inch primary on the headers to a 1 3/4-inch size. The Zinc Yellow SN95 Mustang also received a new paint job in the off season courtesy of Harvey's Body, Paint, and Restoration in Cookeville, Tennessee.

That says REN on Haley James' window as she stepped up one class. We asked her dad, the 2015 Crew Member of the Year about it and he said, "she wants to go quicker so why not step up now " She ran 8.21 at 167 mph on that hit.

When the clutch dust settled it was Shane Stymiest as the provisional top qualifier thanks to a 10.23 at 127 mph but he has some others hot on his heels. Right now, he is followed by Michael Washington (10.251), Jacob Lamb (10.259), and Drew Lyons (10.28). There is one more qualifying session today.

With help from Chet Caminita of CRE Performance, the team had some issues yesterday and went into the FAST XFI 2.0 and massaged the keyboard with the result being the first 7-second hit in class history.
It's been a hectic couple of days for QA1 True Street Competitor Tony Whetstone. After killing a head gasket in testing yesterday during a test pass in his blue convertible GT, Tony and his team along with several other racers began the thrash to put the car back together today after getting the new gaskets around 11:00am this morning. Tony fired up the car just as the racers were lining up to go out the gate, and we're happy to report he's made it back form the cruise. Whetstone has been in every Spring Break Shootout since the beginning, and wasn't about to let a little sealing issue keep him from maintaining that stellar achievement.
Open Comp racer Kurt Neighbor showed up in Bradenton with a new toy; a beautiful 1964 427FE-powered Fairline 500. The car is an NHRA Super Stock machine with a handshaker and Kurt is running brackets this weekend with it as he gets acquainted with it before the Gatornationals. He'll also be entering it in the NMCA Nostalgia Super Stock class next weekend here in Bradenton.
