8.50 "Drag Week Style" class comes to NMRA QA1 True Street at World Finals in Bowling Green

NMRA officials have decided to add an 8.50 award to the 2020 QA1 True Street program held at the NMRA World Finals at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Arguably the mecca of all things True Street, the historic class offers many dynamics, including the Stick Shift Shootout and the King of the Street Heads Up Eliminator. With many other events being cancelled this year, including Hot Rod's Drag Week, the NMRA staff decided to add an 8.50 award to the regular True Street prizes. The 8.50 is a time category that will fit in with the Winner, Runner up, and 9-second awards. In recent years, the NMRA has occasionally had numerous racers run 7- and 8-second averages, and with the elimintion of Drag Week this year, it was a good chance to try the 8.50 instead of closest to 8.00. Drag Week 8.50 is super competitive with the winner often separated from the rest by hundredths of a second. The NMRA 8.50 class will have a slightly looser rules set to allow a greater number of vehicles to compete for the award. The extra True Street Prize should give some of the quickest True Street cars something to shoot for aside from the winner and runner up awards, which these days are won by vehicles that have taken another evolutionary step towards a race car so they can run 7-seconds or better.
