Barbaree and Stone to be Two-Car Team in Street Outlaw

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
While Dwayne Barbaree cruised to wins in NMRA VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw and captured the 2014 championship in NMCA Wiseco Street Outlaw in Russell Stone's Mustang coupe, the team is set to shake things up for the 2017 season. Stone will climb into the driver's seat of the Fox body Mustang he purchased last year from NMCA NA 10.5 driver Ben Mens, and Barbaree will climb into the driver's seat of the Southern Speed-built 1995 Mustang Stone recently purchased from Daniel Pharris, who drove it to a second place finish in NMCA Mickey Thompson Radial Wars points in 2016. Both drivers intend to compete in NMRA and NMCA Street Outlaw. Stone's ride will feature an 8.7 deck 360 cubic-inch small-block Ford engine built by his company, Kuntz and Company. It's topped with Brodix heads, which Kuntz and Company designed with Brodix, and a cast Edelbrock intake, which Kuntz and Company ported. While Stone and Barbaree are deciding which turbo will best complement the combination, they hired ACP Race Cars to fabricate the hot-side and cold-side for the turbo, and they installed an intercooler. A ProTorque EV1 converter and Neal Racing Transmissions-built Powerglide will help put the power down, and Stone will dial it all in via a Holley EFI Dominator system. I wanted to build a very simple combination for this car because I wanted it to showcase something that's affordable in addition to fast, said Stone. Barbaree's ride will boast a Kuntz and Company-built 9.5 deck 360 cubic-inch small-block Ford engine topped with billet heads. It will get added kick from a turbo, the brand of which is to be determined, and an M&M Transmission-built Turbo 400 and ProTorque EV1 converter will be on board. The Arkansas-based drivers are wrapping up wiring on each car, and plan to test before heading to the 23rd Annual Nitto NMRA Spring Break Shootout, March 2-5, and the 15th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 9-12, both at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. We're looking forward to testing and then racing in Florida, said Stone.
