Drivers of vehicles with late-model engines including LS, LT, Modular and Gen III HEMI engines with a TVS supercharger by any manufacturer will be in the spotlight for the heads-up race, and among them will be Brian Devilbiss and his Evolution Performance-prepped 2018 Mustang GT. Devilbiss, who purchased the car last fall, has tested it, but will be racing it for the first time at the event in April. It features a Gen III Coyote engine with stock heads and cams, which Evolution Performance enhanced with an Edelbrock E-Force 2650 TVS Stage II Supercharger, Evolution Performance 8-rib pulley kit, Injector Dynamics ID1300 injectors, 103mm throttle body and 113mm cold air intake. A Fore Innovations return fuel system is in place in the car which burns VP Racing Fuels C85 fuel. Evolution Performance upgraded the engine with Ford Performance Parts billet oil pump gears, timing chains and crank sprocket, and beefed up the chassis with BMR Suspension components and Viking shocks. Two-inch Stainless Works headers and a three-inch Borla S-Type cat-back exhaust are under the car which has a full interior, 10R80 transmission with upgraded friction plates and steels from McLeod by Raybestos and a Circle D Specialties converter. It rolls on Mickey Thompson drag radials. We built the entire car and it was custom-tuned by Jon Jr. of Lund Racing, said Fred Cook of Evolution Performance. We tested it last fall, and Brian (Devilbiss) ran a 9.50 at 150 mph after lifting on the car's second pass at a weight of 4,200 pounds. Since then, he's been driving the car on the street. Prior to rolling into the race in Atlanta, Evolution Performance will add a few more BMR Suspension components under the car and replace the 3:55 rear gear with a Ford Performance Parts 3:15 rear gear. With our previous boost level, we made 961 horsepower and 869 torque at the tires, but we'll add more boost for this race, said Cook. We're targeting 8-second passes. The winner of the EATON TVS Supercharger Throwdown will receive $1,000, a TVS supercharger from one of EATON's technical partners, including Edelbrock, Harrop, Magnuson Superchargers or ROUSH Performance, as well as a custom TVS-themed award fabricated by EATON.
