It has been a long time coming and Bart Tobener fired up his brand-new racecar, a 2015 Mustang GT. Chassis Pro worked with Watson Racing and Strange Engineering to convert the IRS suspension over to a live-axle setup while remaining compliant for stock suspension style classes, particularly Edelbrock Renegade. With sponsorship by Race Parts Solutions and JODAR, Tobener will re-enter the Renegade category armed with a turbocharged Coyote 5.0 powerplant. The complete car build took approximately five months and it marks the first live-axle S550 Mustang outside of the Cobra Jet program. The interior is just as impressive as Tobener integrated the Holley EFI touch-screen into the factory dashboard and kept the modifications to a minimum to preserve a street car look.
The car was fired up last week as Tobener plans on debuting it at the Borla Exhaust NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals this weekend at Atlanta Dragway (Commerce, GA). Race weight so far, without the wing and parachute mounted, rests in the 3,000 pound range. The car's low slung look will get a little more racy as Tobener applises the sponsor stickers and look for an exclusive in-depth feature in Race Pages in the coming months. Stay tuned to NMRAdigital.com for updates on this weekend's action and more details on the new Tobener racecar.
