Friday Coverage 17th Annual WyoTech NMRA Ford Motorsport Nationals

Posted By: Mike Galimi
All dressed up and no where to go Mike Carvalho is making his NMRA debut at the 17th annual WyoTech Ford Motorsport Nationals with a VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw entry. The ProCharger powered coupe features a 427ci powerplant with a set of Edelbrock Victor cylinder heads. The team spent a few days on the chassis dyno at Dez Racing as Eric LaFerriere worked on the Big Stuff 3 engine management system to extract the most power from the small-block combination. Charlie Cooper had a crazy day testing yesterday at Maryland International Raceway before heading to Maple Grove Raceway. He pitched the car sideways at roughly 170 mph on his first hit. Cooper then scuffed the wall on the second pass, thankfully the bull-horn exhaust pipe took the brunt of the impact. After banging the pipe back into shape, Cooper and tuner Jason Lee of PTP Racing unleashed a wicked a 4.33 at 170 mph. It was the quickest lap that Cooper has made in Street Outlaw trim. Recently, he bolted on a Garrett Gen 2 GTX 98mm turbocharger. Cooper currently leads the points thanks to an event win and a semifinal finish so far, through two of six events. David Witt (left) is helping John Kauderer (right) fill up the fuel cell with a fresh batch of VP Racing Fuels C16. The green machine currently holds the ProCharger Coyote Modified record with a 7.744 but there will be several racers knocking on his backdoor this weekend. Kauderer is undefeated thus far but Tommy Annunziata and his LaRocca-tuned Cobra Jet along with Jeff Polivka and his turbocharged El Jefe Boss 302 Mustang are bringing fast rides to the party. They both ran 7.80s in testing at speeds higher than the national record of 175.37 mph. Witt also entered the 7-second club with his Kenne Bell 2014 Cobra Jet the other day. All the cool kids rock NMRA license plates on the back of their racecars, which are available in the NMRA Power Mall (shameless plug!). The largest all-Ford drag race event in the Northeast has gotten off to a challenging start with Friday's fun getting washed out. But the pits are filling up and the plan is to kick it all off Saturday and here is the schedule.
