Henson Cruised to 2018 NMRA Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle Championship

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
While Jason Henson had achieved several top-five finishes in NMRA Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle points, he was determined to drive to a championship in 2018. He would have his work cut out for him as his fellow competitors have their cars decidedly dialed in for both ends of the track, but so does he, and he was up to the task. He recorded an .014 in his Mustang to qualify in the fourth spot at the 24th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA Spring Break Shootout presented by Steeda Autosports in March at Bradenton Motorsports Park, and an even quicker .006 to qualify in the third spot at the 10th Annual NMCA/NMRA All-Star Nationals in April at Atlanta Dragway. Later that weekend, he went 11.99 against Shane Williams to take a trip to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle. On a roll, he defeated multi-time champion Donnie Bowles at the rain-delayed 18th Annual NMRA Ford Motorsport Nationals in May at Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania, and he ran to a runner-up finish against his teammate, Becki Cram, at the 15th Annual NMRA Ford Supernationals in June at National Trail Raceway in Ohio. A .004 reaction time helped him qualify in the fourth spot and he went on to a runner-up finish against Charlie McCulloch at the 13th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing presented by Fuel Systems Technology, in July at Route 66 Raceway in Illinois. He was preparing to take part in the final event of the season, the 20th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA All-Ford World Finals in September at Beech Bend Raceway in Kentucky, when he broke his ankle and had to bow out, but based on his earlier accomplishments, he was able to achieve the 2018 NMRA Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle championship. Winning the Modular Muscle championship has been unimaginable, said Henson, who also competes in NMCA MagnaFuel Open Comp and finished eighth in the category in 2018. I couldn't have done it without great sponsors and a great team behind me. The lowlight of the season was when I broke my ankle and was not able to compete in the World Street Finals for NMCA and the World Finals for NMRA. That was pretty devastating. The highlight of the season was being able to race my teammate, Becki Cram, in the final. That was pretty awesome. Henson and his fellow champions will be celebrated at the NMRA presented by Keystone Awards Ceremony presented by Aerospace Components, Dec. 7 at the Indiana Convention Center. (Please watch for stories on all champions to be posted on the website and in Fastest Street Car in the days to come.)
