Knack Races to Third NMRA Roush Super Stang Championship in a Row

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
As the 2016 and 2017 NMRA Roush Performance Super Stang champion, Marvin Knack went into the 2018 race season with a target on his back. But he didn't let that stop him from recoding a perfect 0.000 reaction time in his 2011 Mustang GT to lead qualifying in the category and cruising to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle with an 11.71 on an 11.67 dial against John Golliday at the 24th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA Spring Break Shootout presented by Steeda Autosports in March at Bradenton Motorsports Park. He was .009 to lead qualifying again at the 10th Annual NMCA/NMRA All-Star Nationals in April at Atlanta Dragway, and he won with an 11.99 on an 11.97 dial against Larry Firestone at the 15th Annual NMRA Ford Supernationals in June at National Trail Raceway in Ohio. The Illinois-based driver broke out with an 11.73 on an 11.84 to runner-up against Miles Wagoner at the 13th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing presented by Fuel Systems Technology ini at Route 66 Raceway in Illinois, and saving the best for last, he won with an 11.86 on 11.81 dial against Andy Ransford at the 20th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA All-Ford World Finals in September at Beech Bend Raceway in Kentucky and earned his third straight NMRA Roush Performance Super Stang championship in a row. I've been paying attention to every detail to make sure the car is right, and I leave no stone unturned, said Knack, who receives support from Stiffers and Brenspeed. Some people comment about how I'm always doing something to the car at the races, but I just want to be sure I'm ready to go. Knack, whose crew includes Deb Patterson, will be celebrated at the NMRA presented by Keystone Awards Ceremony presented by Aerospace Components, Dec. 7 at the Indiana Convention Center. Earning three championships in a row is not something I believed I would ever do, said Knack. It's very gratifying, and I'm overjoyed. (Please watch for stories on all champions to be posted on the website and in Fastest Street Car in the days to come.)
