G-Force Racing Transmissions Coyote Stock is one of the most captivating categories in the NMRA.
It's full of wicked wheelies, super-fast shifting and tight top-end racing, and among all of its impressive competitors with incredible cars is Jacob Lamb.
The Kentuckian who captured the championship in 2017 has been as quick and fast as 10.02 and 134 mph in his Mustang motivated by a Gen II Coyote engine and a G101-A by G-Force Racing Transmissions and rolling on UPR suspension and Mickey Thompson tires.
Now he's prepared to put down even more power, as he recently swapped his Gen II Coyote engine with a new Gen III Coyote engine, with help from his crew chief and friend Billy Fint.
I wanted to switch to a Gen III, which also has a new JLT Performance cold-air intake, as soon as they came out, and I purchased mine from Tim Matherly at MV Performance last fall, said Lamb. My crew chief, Billy Fint, and I had no trouble installing the new engine, and I'm looking forward to having more horsepower, an even better oiling system and running even faster. In addition to that, because of the rules changes, everyone in Coyote Stock can weigh 3,000 pounds instead of 3,100 pounds. The parity is one of the things that makes this category so good.
When Lamb and Fint had the Gen III Coyote engine in the engine bay of the car, Brian McFarland installed the Control Pack, as well as a new RacePak V300SD data logger.
The RacePak V300SD is a step up from the RacePak Sportsman data logger that I was using, said Lamb. We added a few more sensors so that we could gather more data. We'll look at shock travel and more.
When everything was in place, Lamb headed to Kentucky Dragway to make passes toward an NHRA competition license, as his car will run quicker than 9.99.
I made my six passes, with the quickest being 9.83 at 130 mph that weekend, but once we're dialed in for Coyote Stock, we'll see 9.50s or 9.60s, said Lamb, who also recently inspected his G-Force Racing Transmissions G101-A and installed a fresh Ram clutch.
The resolute racer will soon be on his way to the BMR Suspension NMRA Spring Break Shootout, which is March 4-7 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, where he'll purchase a new set of Mickey Thompson slicks to go around his Mickey Thompson wheels, heat them up and haul. While he's at it, he'll be representing JLT Performance of Chesapeake, Virginia and new sponsor, The Parts Farm of Lyons, Georgia.
