Lowest Mileage Foxbody Mustangs In The World Cross the Block At Mecum In Indy

By Bridgett Davis

What many believe to be some of the lowest mileage examples of the Foxbody Mustang in the world crossed the block at Mecum in Indy this past weekend. Some were non-dealer prepped and some had never been titled, selling now in the condition they came of the car carrier almost 30 years ago. The collection is a time capsule of what you’d have seen in Ford showrooms in the 1980s and 1990s. Foxbody Mustangs with window stickers in place and big dreams of potential owners.

Thanks to our friends at the Mustang Club of Indianapolis we got a behind the scenes look at this amazing collection. Mecum, who is a sponsor of the Mustang Club of America, invited the Indy chapter out to see the collection for a private viewing and a Q&A with the owner, Dave W.

Dave has spent over a decade assembling what many consider the lowest mileage and most pristine examples of the third-generation of the Ford Mustang in the world. Dave also has some modern Ford iron in his stable, which has been covered by many publications and the REVan Evan YouTube channel.

And while we’ve seen many Foxbody Mustangs on the street and track, it’s rare to see one, no less a dozen of them, with such low mileage. And it was amazing to see these examples preserved in such a fine manner. Some may say the cars was meant to be driven, but there are hundreds of thousands of Fox Mustangs that are driven and raced every day. We love the fact that you can still enjoy cars that are left 100-percent original even if they will likely never accumulate mileage.

For Dave, however, deciding which ones to part with was no easy task. He’s collected his favorites, from a LX Coupes and GTs to SVT Cobras and other special Fox Mustangs. Some include a 1979 Ford Mustang Pace Car Edition with just 77 miles and his 1989 Saleen Mustang driven only 15 miles. Yes, just 15 miles!

So what are these cars worth? The highest price paid was for his ’89 Saleen—it fetched a steep $192,500 with bidder fees. It was preserved as a brand-new car right down to the window sticker, untouched 5.0L V-8, 5-speed drivetrain, never-used floor mats and the original General XP2000V tires. He also sold two 1993 SVT Cobra that went for over $106,000 each and in total, 14 cars from his collection rolled across the red carpet.

The good news for Dave is that he’s created space to fill up with more cars and we’re sure they will be nice ones, too. A true enthusiast, Dave hosts the Mustang & All Ford Meet in New Jersey each year, which is a huge Cars & Coffee event, and he’s an avid collector of Ford Mustangs and Ford memorabilia.
