NMRA and Ford Performance Announcement about Gen II Coyote Stock Engine

Posted By: Mike Galimi
NMRA officials have been discussing the Gen II Coyote Stock engine with the engineers at Ford Performance and some issues that have developed this year. For proper performance of the cam phasers and chain tensioners, Ford Performance Parts requires the use of Motorcraft SAE 5W-50 Full Synthetic XO-5W50-QGT or equivalent oil and fill the engine with eight quarts of oil along with adding a new oil filter with every oil change. The Gen II Coyote engine uses different phasers and chains and in our talks with Ford Performance engineers, the type of oil and oil level are critical for optimal use, says Rollie Miller, National Event Director and General Manager of NMRA. We know some racers run much lighter weight oils and reduce the oil level to gain an edge in performance. Those practices can effect oil pressure to the cam phasers, which at some point will force the ECU to lock the cams in place, potentially causing problems. NMRA officials are also permitting the use of a commercially available oil Accumulator for both Gen I and Gen II Coyote engines for 2019 and beyond. 2019 PRELIMINARY Rules About NMRA Ford Nationals Brought to you by Keystone Automotive, the NMRA Ford Nationals is known as the largest all-Ford motorsport event series.
