NMRA Tears Into 2023 With A Tremendous Lineup Of Street-Car Classes

Santa Ana, California [Dec. 23, 2022] — The most accessible and popular class in street car drag racing, True Street draws hundreds of street machines to every event on the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals series calendar. In 2023 it is joined by a trio of True Street events just for ladies and specialty shootouts that qualify during True Street competition.

“Since its inception, the True Street class became one of the most popular categories in NMRA competition. With the series celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2023, it seems only fitting to offer racers more ways to race in this style,” Steve Wolcott, President and CEO of NMRA, said. “The TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout adds an exciting element to Sunday eliminations, and the TREMEC All-Female True Street Class has quickly grown in popularity, so it was an obvious addition to our season opener at Orlando Speed World.”

With eliminations running on Saturday at every NMRA event on the 2023 calendar, True Street competitors complete a 30-mile cruise and three drag strip passes. The average of those passes determines the overall winner, runner-up, and champions a range of elapsed-time categories that run from single digits all the way to 15 seconds, with the closest average to each time taking a trip to the Winner’s Circle.

At Orlando Speed World (March 2-5, 2023), the NMRA Ford Homecoming at Summit Motorsports Park (June 8-11, 2023), and the NMRA World Finals + Holley Ford Fest at Beech Bend Raceway Park (Sept. 28 - Oct. 1, 2023), NMRA officials will select the eight quickest racers that are still banging gears by hand with a single shift lever. Those racers are announced during the True Street awards ceremony on Saturday night and compete in the TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout on Sunday with a staggered start based on their True Street average. Winners drive away with special awards and prizes.

Running along with the storied True Street class at those same three events in Florida, Ohio, and Kentucky is the newly expanded TREMEC All-Female True Street, which runs at the Spring Break Shootout and World Finals for the first time in 2023. It follows the same format as the wildly popular TorqStorm True Street category with a 30-mile drive and three consecutive runs down the quarter-mile. When the averages are calculated, NMRA officials will calculate the average elapsed times and determine the Overall Winner, Overall Runner-Up, and the quickest average times in the 9-second, 10-second, 11-second, 12-second, 13-second, 14-second, and 15-second zones. The class allows running any Ford car or truck, and the same vehicle can be entered in TorqStorm Superchargers True Street.

Additionally, at the season opener in Orlando, the 16 quickest competitors from the True Street field will move on to the Spring Break Shootout on Sunday. In this category, the quickest street Fords around, many of which run single-digit elapsed times, will compete to see who has the baddest street Ford on the property. Following that same format, the King of the Street class will draw 16 cars from True Street to crown the quickest street cars in Ohio and Kentucky.
